A3 droptop to drop next year

When Audi gets done with their corporate spiel at next year's Geneva Motor Show, it's likely that they'll pull back the curtain and unveil their newest attempt to steal market share from the MINIs and 1-series of the world.
The A3 cabrio has been confirmed as the next drop top to come from the quad-ringed company, sporting four seats and an electrically controlled foldable canvas roof. According to AutoExpress, Audi has no intention of offering a hard top 'vert on its models anytime soon.
Power will come from the usual suspects, including the 3.2 V6, all the way down to the 1.6-liter FSI and diesels. At the low end, European customers can expect to pay around £18,500, while those heavy with the pen in the check boxes will top the A3 convertible out around £28k. Sales are expected to begin in 2008.

I wish so bad that Audi would make reliable cars. I'd buy a used A3 in an instant if I wasn't so scared about gremlins erupting. With that said, an A3 convertible sounds odd. How do you convert a hatch to that anyway?

Um... why? Won't this just be an A4 cabrio with less of a trunk? Won't people who thought the A4 cabrio was too big just buy a TT roadster?

Yeah, diesel would be nice...though the won't even give us quattro with the smaller engine.
I'd be all over a diesel awd A3, if subaru doesn't beat them to market with a diesel.

think of the mini convertible. the A3 and the Mini are very similar in size and function (though the A3 is a nicer car). just like there's a ragtop on the mini, htey can do the exact same thing with the A3...

They can at least put an A3 picture in the header... not an A6. Aren't these supposed to be car guys? Tisk tisk.

#3, what makes you think Audis are so unreliable? The latest consumer reports has ranked them fairly high:

I think every audi, no matter the engine, can be ordered with a quattro, and it only comes standart with the bigger engines in every model.

#10 most basic engines are not avaible with quattro
other as in the USA in Europe you have a giant pool of engines to choose ... example the A3 is avaible in Germany
with 3 basic option packeges
Attraction
Ambiente
Ambition
all three are avaible as 3door or 5 door
with 3 diesel engines
with 7 petrol engines
with stick shift
with s-tronic (DSG)
with tiptronic
with FWD
with quattro
with power from 102hp>250hp
and on top of that the S3 with 265hp
that is only the basic choose... for each model you have a wide range of options to make it more individuel...

the golf platform already has the TT convertible and the Eos. If the TT is supposed to be the style king of the golfs and the Eos has a complicated and heavy hard top, doesn't this create some brand confusion by likely offering a soft top based on a model that is supposed to be an upmarket version from the EOs? I dunno anymore. They need fewer models and more option flexibility. I'd like something with a 2.0T but 4wd. turbos ftw... spend half the cash difference between the models on a computer reflash
