Spy Shots: More Corvette Z07 pics
Another batch of pics have surfaced of the new Corvette Z07/SS/Blue Devil/Sting Ray/Grand Sport, this time from Popular Mechanics ace Jim Dunne. The car is virtually unmasked, save a cover on the front fender vents and over the hood. The only real differences we see on the outside are the ten-spoke wheels, a black roof and the covered-but-visible hood bulge. Oh yeah, and it's wearing a Devil Red paint job.The roof is rumored to be carbon fiber to save weight and add strength, a trick commonly employed on a few BMWs. The hood might also be made of the carbon weave, and with or without scoop, PM confirms it's covering a supercharger. Even the wheels might be carbon fiber to save on unsprung weight. Whatever their made of, they look good and appear to be wrapped in even wider tires, especially at the rear. Other changes out back include integrated mudflaps and a revised spoiler lip with a restyled cyclops brake light.
The first Vette to possibly crack the $100,000 mark should be a real supercar, with between 600 and more likely 700 hp coming from its blown 7.0L V8. Click the Read link for several full-car shots from PM.
Thanks for the tips, everyone!

This could turn out to be a real cracker of a car, assuming of course, it gets the green signal for production.

Having their hands full with pumping all the bhp I don't suppose they improved the interior so one would think they're sitting in a car that's worth a 100k?
BTW this hood looks really ugly...

Is that guy talking on his cell phone while driving a 650 HP prototype? What is he nuts?

Some ideas, as much as I love vettes, this car CANNOT look like a run of the mill corvette, granted they won't lose my money (god/lottery willing) but the idea of paying 105k for a car that could be mistaken for a 48k car would anger some people. Plus a carbon fiber roof is all fine and good, personally I question how much weight the paint on that roof would add....but that's fine since we won't see the roof that much (plus BMW proved it doesn't look bad on the right cars), but in my eyes at least a carbon fiber hood(unpainted I fear via the spyshots) is outrageous and I highly doubt many honda tuners would convert to an american car for this. People who pay 100k for a car want perfect paint and a design that sets them apart. None of this would distract me from a sale (I would buy a new hood though), but they can't expect all the cars to go to people like us who more often than not are broke due to our cars and our love for them.

People on here are either psychic or have superman vision because i can't draw any conclusions on this car

Well bo, I hope my conclusions are horridly wrong, because this very car has hit the nurburgring. My logic is that if they were testing it there the aerodynamics would be set(gm doesnt have a whole lot of time on the track there) and thus I figure they would run at the most a covered prototype; this car is not that far from production. My hope is that they make some drastic changes (or are covering some) before it comes out, a flagship vette costing 100k that needs a gearhead to tell the difference is silly.

What a poor mans exotic car....sorry GM...you don't got nothing on the Ford GT40 or the Mustang SuperSnake 700 hp out of the box.

the Z06 can hang with the best of exotics, and I expect the Z07/Blue Devil/SS will handily beat them. Just because GM doesn't throw an insane price tag and a low displacement, high rev engine in doesn't mean it's no good. It's quicker to 60 and faster around a track than a ferrari F430 for goodness sake!

Thank you Andrew, so true. If you look into it the Z06 can run with the F430 trading hit for hit, and I can't wait to see this new ss so long as they ditch the plain black carbon fiber hood.

Something about the Vette Z06 blowing away the Shelby GT500. With that being said, the "700hp SuperSnake" and "Z07" are hardly availible, and therefore we can't conclude much of anything from these supposed cars. ;)
