More Mustang Madness: Steeda uncorks its own GT500

Yes, kids: it's another Mustang. Today's addition to the ever-lengthening list of ponycar variants offered by Ford, Shelby, Saleen, and others comes from big-time Ford aftermarket presence, Steeda. The Pompano Beach-based company has unveiled the Steeda GT500, which, as you've correctly surmised by now, uses Ford's 500-horsepower Shelby GT500 as its starting point.
As you've also probably guessed, the Steeda-modified 'Stang is pushing over 600 horsepower to those rear wheels. No solid number is provided in the press release, but given that the Steeda GT500 incorporates the company's cold air intake, ECU tune, and pulley upgrade, we figure on the output being somewhere between 625 and 644 horsepower. At least.
Engine work's just part of the deal, as the GT500 also benefits from a full suite of new suspension components, upgraded brakes, a new shifter, and a new exhaust. The full list of mods can be seen after the jump or via the "Read" link below. The price? $13,995 for the whole shebang (you supply the car, natch).
Thanks to Drew for the tip!

Yea, it's getting silly, special edition of a special edition (but at the same time I'm with #1)... yet still no one figured out to make folding mirrors (which can actually be useful) or how to get rid of the '80's style antenna.... or how to maybe lose a few pounds.
Off topic - is there a way to contact one specific autoblog author directly?

I promise not to complain about the special editions if they give me one of them for free :-)

Personally, I'd rather see lots of variations rather tons of the same.

I'm starting to think the Ford Mustang has more species than a real mustang. Now giddy up!!

I like these kinda 'Stangs. What irks is when Ford gives a GT500 a new paint scheme and calls it a Limited Edition, or a Special Edition or this or that. This is pretty cool.

I still like yesterdays better.
Mush...all of these special editions from Ford or otherwise are very limited in numbers. These arent your average we have 20 on the lot V6's or GT's.

Not one of these cars has the IRS setup from the T-bird. So they're not so "special" after all.

PLEASE STOP with the special edition MUSTANGS! OR NO please make a another SPECIAL EDITION MUSTANG. Call it the
"Ford Mustang with proper Independent Rear Suspension, Proper 100% Leather (not that plastic garbage leather they use now), good interior, 6-speed manual transmission, proper brakes, well assembled, no cowl shake, 50/50 weight distribution EDITION"
FORD CAN YOU PLEASE WORK ON THAT SPECIAL EDITION MUSTANG? PLEASE? Oh, no wait just make it in another color that would be just as good. Thanks!

If someone out there does another special Mustang, please do something with the interior.
I must be the only one who noticed the parking brake is closer to the driver then the gear shifter. I would prefer to have the gear shifter closer to me instead of by the passenger. The current gear shifter / parking brake configuration is great if the car was configured for right-hand drive.
Ford, Can you offer a special kit to reverse this configuration?

Jack...go drive a Mustang GT with a five speed. It's not a bad setup. It's fairly comfortable.
Also, I LOVE the Mustang but damn, these TUNER companies to chill out on the special editions...

Holy crap morons. Its not a special edition. Its a tuner car. From a tuner that has built Mustangs for many years. More specifically a car to showcase what parts are available from Steeda for the GT500. Of course you'll see a lot of tuned 'Stangs, it has been around over 40 years. Now most of you don't care enough about cars to do some research but if you looked a Fords lineup in the 60s you would see years with 7 engine choices, 4 different body styles, color packages available only in certain regions, etc. What the Mustang was about was choice. Thats why people loved it and still do. Thats why the new Mustang sells so well. Thats why so many companies want to tune it. Its supply and demand. Steeda suspension setups are really, really good, maybe as good as Kenny Browns.
