Audi A6 allroad 3.0 TDI lands in Oz
The 2nd-gen Audi A6 allroad has rolled into Australia, where it's offered solely with the 3.0L TDI V6. The engine bestows 233 horsepower and a very healthy 330 lb-ft of torque upon the soft-roading wagon. Combined cycle fuel economy works out to just under 27 mpg -- not an earth-shattering number at face value, but it's very respectable when you consider that the allroad is a 4100-lb, quattro-equipped machine.
Stylewise, it's a great-looking car with a slick exterior, a subtly-tough stance, and one of Audi's typically classy passenger cabins. What a shame that it's no longer offered in the US, where Audi feels that the Q7 addresses people's needs in that segment. For our part, we'd rather have the choice -- and that diesel option -- here at home. Audi's press release is pasted after the jump.

New Audi A6 allroad quattro Tackles all Terrains
Audi's second generation A6 allroad quattro has arrived in Australia.
Comfortable and capable on the road or off the beaten track, the new A6 allroad quattro keeps going when the bitumen ends. It offers the ultimate choice for customers wanting a spacious road-going vehicle with SUV-capabilities thanks to quattro permanent all-wheel drive and the variable ground clearance made possible by adaptive air suspension.
The new A6 allroad quattro is priced at $106,000. Capable of moving people literally and figuratively, the second generation of Audi's successful all-terrain vehicle boasts 171 kilowatts of power and an impressive 450 Nm of torque.
Powered by a lusty 3.0 TDI engine and silky six-speed tiptronic transmission, this latest-generation diesel engine technology features a common-rail injection system and piezo injectors, and is united with a highly effective exhaust emission control, known as a diesel particulate filter DPF.
Quite simply, the A6 allroad quattro has the power to deliver superior performance upon demand without compromising the efficient fuel consumption of modern diesel engines. Low emissions add yet another attractive feature to a long list of benefits.
Audi's managing director, Joerg Hofmann, says the new A6 allroad quattro is a popular vehicle with a loyal customer base.
"The second generation of the A6 allroad quattro will be sought out by customers who want authenticity and performance, knowing they possess the ability to escape from the urban jungle, whilst maintaining an appreciation of style, quality and workmanship," Mr Hofmann said.
"This new model exists in a very popular niche with those customers who find themselves wanting all-terrain flexibility but don't need a vehicle quite as rugged as an SUV."
Its expressive and emotional appearance and capable character perfectly highlights its flexible personality and power even when stationary. Dynamic lines and a coupe-like silhouette convey the vehicle's sporty characteristics, and a prominent new feature is the unique interpretation of the single-frame grille. The vertical chrome-trimmed bars ensure the licence plate appears to be suspended mid-grille.
The striking aluminium roof rails and off-road styling elements such as a prominent stainless steel undertray for engine protection and wide, flared wheel arches harmoniously integrate a sense of robust character with a nonetheless stylish appearance.
The A6 allroad quattro is longer (+124mm) and wider (+10mm) than its predecessor. Its wheelbase has been extended by 76mm benefiting front and rear passengers, along with additional shoulder room (+ 23mm in front, + 6mm at rear) and more room between seats (+ 40mm at front and + 20mm at rear). The more spacious and versatile luggage compartment designed for maximum functionality, offers up to 1,660 litres of load space (+70 litres) with the rear seats folded down. A twin rail securing system and extensive storage packages provide ample storage space and tie-down facilities.
The variable air suspension features five driving modes and can be raised by up to 60mm above its resting position, ensuring the A6 allroad quattro lives up to its name.
The perfect escape vehicle for busy, sports-loving families, the new A6 allroad quattro offers space and flexibility in a nimble package. Ideal for travel-savvy drivers, the A6 allroad quattro easily swallows skis, surfboards, luggage, children and the family pet, offering the best-possible compromise between family estate, performance car and larger SUV model. It is fuel-efficient and low on emissions, adding another positive dimension to this versatile vehicle.
The new Audi A6 allroad quattro defines the future of all-terrain performance with technology that remains revolutionary, emotional design, innovation and versatility.
