Final car list for Forza Motorsports 2 announced
It's fantastic when the Microsoft juggernaut uses its massive expertise to get things spot on. Forza Motorsport 2, the sequel to original's four-wheeled bedlam, has better physics, better visuals, and according to the recently posted list, 310 cars to choose from.
There's the mundane, like a 2006 Acura RL. There's the surprising, like a Bentley Continental GT. There's the juiced, like the the Saleen S7. There are the shoo-ins, like the Mclaren F1 and the NSX. And then there's the overkill: 18 Chevys, 20 Ferraris, 22 Nissans, 25 Porsches, and 25 Toyotas. That's the kind of "overkill" that's just right in our book. Seven of those cars can only be had with game pre-orders and the collector's edition. Other rare "unicorn cars" can be bought in the Turn 10 online auction, in case you can't get your lap times just right with the 310 standard options.
What's more, you get more tuning choices like swapping drivetrains (changing FWD into RWD), and more artwork possibilities (4000 art layers instead of 400). You can even create custom paint jobs and sell them online. Forza Motorsport 2 arrives in May. Get ready to drive.

looks like forza has raised the bar pretty high. i wonder if granturismo 5 will deliver. forza's achiles heel was the tracks, they were rough aproximations of the real things were as gran turismo did a much better job of mapping out all the little mid corner bumps that add so much to the character of a track. im still waiting to see which consol i should get, i have been waiting on these 2 games.

Nice selection on VW's but they got the year wrong on the R32...thats a 2004 not a 2003 like they say it is

I thought after watching the show that the new camaro would be in it. I was also hoping for the aston martin race cars. Oh well. At least there is a solstice to modify now.

I wish they would of added more vehicles. GT4 had like 500. And it had the Ford RS200, which this one doesn't :P

I've been playing gran turismo since version 1 but I'm switching to Forza. The sound of the cars in GT4 is horrible. Compare a fully built 69 camaro in GT2 and then in GT4, and you'll see what I'm talking about. GT2 had great engine sounds.
Just one of many reasons why I'm switching to Forza.

Anyone who has a PS3 can download the GT5 demo off the Sony store. All I have to say is its amazing, and though it only has 12 cars it's really fun to play. If the final version is anything like the demo, GT5 will destroy Forza. That screenshot in the article, which everyone knows is all prettied up by Microsoft, and is running at optimal settings (720p high def for the Xbox, doesn't even look anywhere as good as GT5 did when I played it at 1080p.

Forza is sooo much better than Gran Turismo, it's not even close. GT4, no online. Forza has REAL physics, not surface only physics. Forza has REAL tuning, not some jive-@*$ dunno what this is going to do tuning.
Oh and GT doesn't have any damage modeling...WEAKSAUCE SUPREME!
In fact GT is so weak, Sony used Project Gotham screens to market their game. You can't make that shit up!

personally I have always thought that that physics in GT suck. It feels like you're driving a box around the track, never been impressed.

That's bullshit. Damage modeling could be coming soon, from what Sony said, and why are you comparing an Xbox 360 game with a PS2 game? Compare it to a PS3 game and then we'll talk.
Online was still a pretty new thing for Sony at the time,and Microsoft had the luxury of coming out a year or so later so they could have the internet capable option, but Sony will amaze us soon.

Forza is awesome. Beats GT4/GT5/GTHD any day of the week, in my book. Yes, it will be better than GT5. I can feel it. :)
The physics in Forza are real, as is the AI, unlike in GT4, where the computer drivers are just drones that drive a line religiously. Also, Forza has Damage, so it isn't a bumper car race like GT4.
But Physics calculated 320 times per second at a steady 60fps display with full time AA? It's gonna be wonderful. GT is just weak in comparison. And can you customize cars in GT? No. Forza > all.

I own both a 360 and a PS3, (well I own a PS3 my roommate owns a 360). I've played Forza 1, I can't say I've played 2, but based on what I know about GT5 it's gonna be hard for Forza to beat it. The DEMO of GT5 blew me away, after racing and watching a replay of your race, it's like you are watching real life. In shots where you can see the interior through the back windshield, the interior is accurate down to the buttons, and as the car takes a turn you can see the guy inside turning the wheel. As far as playing it in 720 vs. 1080, I run my PS3 on 720p because my TV acts weird when I run it at 1080. At 720 GT5 looks better than that screenshot of Forza 2, in 1080, it blows it away. The new GT5 will also have online play.
As far as driving physics for GT, they have always been hard and extremely lifelike. I'm not a PS3 fanboy, I just think that GT5 will be a better game.

As I've said before, why are we comparing a PS2 game to a XBOX 360 game?
How do you know game play will be the same as GT4? What if you can totally rice out your Honda Civic with an outrageous body kit?

I CAN say that I did play Forza 2, driving the C6 Z06, and man...it was GOOD. Drove around Sebring...lets say that last turn is HARD.

Now I'm not comparing gameplay to screenshots. Check out a screenshot of GT5 (http://media.playstationpro2.com/images/gran_turismo5-1.jpg and http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/736/736366/gran-turismo-hd-20061009023346321.jpg). That looks a lot better than on Forza 2.
And regarding damage, a developer for GT5 said:
--"...We're not ready to implement damage until they can be shown in a truly authentic way (which is extremely hard work if you think about it)."
--Damage in Gran Turismo would make the franchise unstoppable, don't you think? He responds: "No I mean, really, really, really hard work... to the extent of creating another game, almost. From our standards, what other games are doing is "simplified damage". You know how anal we are when making our games... we would want to simulate every single dent differently."

While those shots look good, I will wait till the actual game comes out. GT:Hd was supposed to be a full game...then it got dropped and became a smaller download content. Also...remember how Sony showed off Kill Zone 2, how it "looks", or Motorstorm...where are those now? And at what quality are they?
