Hey, BMW, here's a suggestion: instead of wasting resources on newer/uglier cars, try taking existing models and getting them out to the consumer at much lower curb weights? 3600 lbs for a 335 sedan/coupe is ridiculous...it's no longer a compact sport sedan. Aim for 3k lbs, kids...then go lower. Even the e9x M3 is gonna be a piggy tank on wheels. We can only imagine how portly the pictured monstrosity will be.

That said... man this thing looks cool. Anyone else see hints of the Z8 headlights? The back end is a huge improvement over the 6 series.

As for weight, this thing will be in the same fat club as the MB sedans, which is OK. This thing is long, low, and wide. It has the proportions that an automobile should have.

That alone makes it a beautiful thing.

Most cars today look like humpbacks -- too tall, too skinny, too arched. I know it's aerodynamics, but it looks like hell.

I see what they were trying to do (Quattroporte-ish front end, muscular profile, etc), but it's just not elegant. It's "edgy" to the point of being just gaudy and cheesy.

And I disagree about Bangle making more nice designs, as influential as he is. The cars worth looking at are the 3 series coupe/sedan and X5. The rest (esp. the 5 and 7 series) are trash. Then again, people don't buy BMW so much for style or performance as to brag to the rest of the world that they can burn money.]]>Apr 20th 2007 1:29PM
