Do you prefer the 1st gen Scion xA and xB? Great Wall's got you covered

If Great Well weren't building cars for the Chinese market, they would most likely be making Rolexx watches or Hermez bags. Instead, they are showing a lineup of six cars at the Shanghai Motor Show this week including at least two that will be familiar to Autoblog readers. For those of you who preferred the original Scion lineup to the new ones that were rolled at the Chicago Auto Show, it looks like Great Wall has them both along, with a bunch of other cars that look vaguely familiar.[Source: China Car Times]
Update:Autoblog china posts in Beijing Autoshow.

I'm not the least bit surprised. The Chinese do nothing more than rip off others and try to call it their own.

If scion doesn't sue this company for blatant copyright and design infringement; they must be a bunch of idiots.
Take off the logos in the front; 99.9% will say that is a xA and xB.

Wow. Great design sense. Just another case of "steal and make your own".

Why would Scion sue? Scion is merely a brand name owned by Toyota and not a legal entity in its own right. Their products either rebadged Toyotas or Toyota-based cars to begin with.

Reminds me of that Fifth gear episode where they were at a car show and saw this asian (very chinese-looking) lady researching the cars by matching interior colors and stuff. It was pretty suspicious, and they asked her what company she was from, to which she replied suzuki.
It's kinda sad that companies can get away with this stuff nowadays. I wonder how long it'll take china to make cars with character if they keep stealing like this.

And if these were being sold in the US or Europe, they would. A copyright/design lawsuit in China? I don't think they'd get far...

Now we know what an xA would look like with a Yaris front clip on it. My worry isnt the looks as much as whats under the skin. Paper thin metal and cheap castings I would imagine. That said, If the Chinese are as quick learners as the Koreans and the Japanese, the will be producing top rate cars soon.

Maybe they should copy designs of vehicles that aren't butt ugly. Then maybe they'd get somewhere.

FYI, spelling error in 1st sentence:
"If Great Well weren't building cars for the Chinese market..." Should be Great Wall.

Uh... Toyota wouldn't sue because the Chinese courts have already made it clear that they aren't going to do anything about cases like this. I forget the details of the lawsuit that the courts struck down, but it was very similar.
Meanwhile some Chinese designers are doing a decent job trying to be original at some of the other companies (with awkward results) and others are coming up with very good re-skins for GM vehicles that are sold there. I hope those companies are the only ones that prosper.
