The Superleggera diet has worked wonders for the Gallardo, so why not also commit the Lamborghini Murcielago to a little weight loss? That may be Lamborghini's line of thinking, as this somewhat strange looking Murcielago was caught testing on Germany's famed Nurburgring. The red tester is wearing black panels that are likely made of carbon fiber and/or plastic, just like certain body panels on the Gallardo Superleggera. According to The Car Connection, the doors, engine hood, central tunnel and that large rear wing will likely be comprised of the carbon fiber stuff, and some glass may also be swapped out for lighter clear plastic panels. One would assume that the Murcielago's rapid weight loss would also be accompanied by a corresponding bump in power, as was the case with the Gallardo Superleggera. The current Merc's 640 horsepower is a substantial number already, so who knows how much higher Lamborghini can push it. Hopefully the Murcielago Superleggera isn't merely vaporware and will make a grand entrance when the auto show season begins again this fall in Europe.

FYI, "vaporware" means a product that is announced but never delivered; usually something that a company talks about endlessly even as the ship date slips continuously into the future.
I don't think a product which is unannounced and which merely exists in the world of rumor and speculation can really be vaporware.
That said, I don't see why anyone would buy a Murcielago over a Gallardo. It's just bigger and heaver, Superlegga or not. The power to weight ratios are about the same; the Gallardo will outperform its big brother in the slalom, and the big heavy version costs more to purchase, maintain, and repair.

The Mucielago weighs way too much this could be a great opportunity for them to lose some of the weight and to ad a few extra horsepower.

Cut the AWD, replace some panels (particularly the steel roof), up it to 700, give it more aero suction, good to go.

lmao, nick, do you have any idea how much that would cost in terms of development? plus, let's take stalk of the amount of rwd supercars which have met their death in the last twelve months, pretty staggering vs awd supercars.

Considering the R-GT Le Mans racer is RWD, the development is pretty much done already with regards to how the Murcielago would take to a RWD system. Not to mention of course, we're talking about a Lamborghini super car, not exactly a car that's built to a cost. As for your comment regarding supercars that have met their death, need I remind you that LP640s were crashing and burning (literally) before they were even available to the public? Combine that with the fact that the Murcielago and Gallardo are the only super cars using AWD right now, outside of the Veyron, and it's not exactly shocking that more RWD super cars have been lost...

This is 1 awsum mobile, ive always loved murcieliago's and this is just another to my list but this thing is gonna b a track bug its not something you would drive everyday, the spoiler is a good touch to keep the rear wheels down but considering its AWD already i dont see the point so much.
