Ford readies Shelby GT500 Red Stripe Appearance Package

Ford's getting ready to release yet another special Mustang trim package. This time, the recipient is the top dog Shelby GT500. The big news isn't really that big at all in the grand scheme of things. The Red Stripe Appearance Package consists of a black or white GT500 with -- you guessed it -- red stripes on the hood, roof, and side of the car. The interior gets in on the act, too, with red inserts on black leather seats, plus premium carpeting and floormats featuring a silver-and-red Cobra logo. The package costs $1,650 and for that price, buyers also get a Shelby car cover included as a throw-in. The Red Stripe Appearance Package will be produced beginning on May 7th. Call us crazy, but given the number of color/stripe combinations available for the GT500 as it is, we can't imagine ponying up (no pun intended) another $1,650 for the privilege of having red ones. This goes to show you just how powerful the Mustang is as a marketing platform for Ford. They'll probably sell a bunch of these.

So, where are the big pictures for backgrounds? That black and red GT500 would be so great as my desktop.
And for the record, I would pay it.

$1650 is a drop in the bucket considering that most of the GT500s are going between $15000 and $20000 over sticker. I think the package is worth it considering this will be the rarest 2007 GT500 configuration, as it's only avialable the last 4 weeks of production.

Karesh seems to have made a lot of enemies here. Now some are even writing parodies about him and his site like poster #2.

Ugly truth, Thank God someone else believes what I do. I am sick and tired of received my MT and Automobile mags and finding yet friggin article trumpeting the arrival of yet another cosmetic derivation of the Mustang. Anyone seen the Top Gear review of the GT500 ? Yes, I admit when I see a Stang ripped with fat body kits and nice wheels I look. It seems that the big 2 1/2 seem unable to break the false belief that changing the marketing will extend the life of car. Show us what your doing next with the Mustang, design and engineering wise and I might show some interest.

How about a black car with azure blue stripes? Now that's purdy! I've always liked that combo. It's rare, but if you've ever seen it when it's done correctly and tastefully, you'd see what I mean. I do recall seeing an Fiat X1/9 with it many moons ago.

In Karesh's defense, I first found his site spamming annoying, but unlike most of the self-promoters on Autoblog, his site actually has some useful content. The worst offender has to be Stoneman. Have you read any of his reviews? Dave's parody is closer to Stoneman than Karesh.
But honestly, 7320 different references to truedelta.com. That's a bit much.

Why is Ford Putting out another top end option?
Another GT500/KR/S281/ParnelliJones/Roush/whatever...
a 50K mustang???? Since when has that been Mustang's Role? Let alone with old suspension technology, and nearly two tons of curb weight.
I thought that the Mustang used to be affordable domestic performance. Why aren't there more options coming for the GT? or a Mach/Bullitt just above the GT? Where the car can actually try to compete in the market?
I am sorry, but for 50k, a Mustang is not on my list, regardless of the color of it's stripes.
To the above point, I agree with some of the posts here, but "Ugly Truth" is completely inappropriate with his characterization of people who live in the geographic central areas of the US. It detracts from his comments, credibility, and is not necessary for the point to be made. A little more decorum and better manners would be nice.
Is it not enough to simply make a point, without being inappropriate and insult people?

RE: MK #14
The Shelby Mustang has always been a high-end, expensive option. In 1967, the base Mustang started at $2461 while the GT500 had a base price of $4195.
There is a Bullitt coming in the spring of 2008.

As for me and my house i would buy one if money was no objection and fun was my only intent. Ford has every right as much as dodge to produce such a wonderful car for the pure performance nut!!!!!!!!

Its not a new version of the Mustang its a feaking OPTION! Why do so many people here feel that every "new" version of the Mustang is a new car? They are just options. I have even seen people stupid enough to claim the Ford has 9 different "models" of the Mustang because they count the each configuration or option package as a seperate model. For example, some have claimed that the V6 Pony package is a seperate model, same for the Calaforina Cruiser package is also a whole seperate model from the GT. They are nothing more than a check box on a Mustang order sheet.

Yeah, maybe they have a special package for your short yellow bus! Maybe some flames or the optional spelling worksheet! If you want to be an ass at least don't make it so easy for a response.

The Ugly Truth,
Talk about low IQ, you can't even spell farless make a decent point.
1965 technology, are you that stupid? Have you driven a current Mustang? Do you understand that many of the enthusiasts of this car drag race them and don't want heavier, unneccesary IRS (I assume that is to what you refer)? Do you understand that the suspension is perfectly adequate and well performing in this vehicle? Do you understand it has overhead cams? Variable Cam Timing? Multiple valves (even if on intake only)? Do you even know what the hell your talking about?
Also, none of these cars stickers for over $50K save for the tuner versions (Saleen, Roush). Base price starts in the teens for a V6, low to mid 20s for a GT, and low 40s for the GT500. Just because enough people want them to pay over sticker for the GT500 doesn't mean that is what the factory is asking.
The car brings back memories for many baby boomers in it's sheetmetal design. It is affordable muscle and just because there are special editions doesn't change that. Guess what else, they have and are for the forseeable future selling every special edition Mustang they make.
