VIDEO: More 2008 BMW M3 vids

Yes, it's another E92 post. This sweet new M3 keeps popping up in photos and videos, and we feel compelled to share. We know some of you are a bit disappointed in the looks (and specs) of this newest version, but seeing (and hearing) it in action might change more than a few minds. It's not pushed to the absolute limits, but you can still see its reflexes and hear its growl. There are actually four different videos after the jump. The first one is the newest one we found on YouTube. The other three are from Streetfire.net and, among other things, show the engine being bench tested, glowing headers and all.
Follow the jump for the videos.

Nice sound, but tame compared to that of the RS4.

Is it just me or does that machine to shift the gears on the transmission seem like a bit overkill

Wow that growl is amazing!
And the engine is so light weight.
Another well balanced high preformance car from BMW!

Clearly you are not German.

BMW cars are luxury car first, then perfomance cars second.
Although this 190mph M3 is plenty fast, a smidge faster than the 185mph RS4. Though those speed are 5mph faster than the rated sustained speeds.
The last M3 had crumple zone integrated into the exhaust tips. Page 6

So lightweight (~3600lb) is relative, does it seat more than the 3000lb Rx-8, or carry more cargo?
and the overall gearing is shorter than the outgoing M3, so mileage will be in the crapper.

Isn't the top speed of the LS2 CTS-V ~165mph in 6th gear?

huh,
so the CTS-V will now be faster and so will the GT-R
the looks have not grown on me yet, the old one was jsut too perfect and this one just seems out of porportion.

Does anyone have a link to how much this weighs? The V8 sounds great and I'm glad they didn't use any cast iron like in my E46 - however, the package as a whole isn't getting me excited. They only increased torque by 20ft lbs just like from the E36 to E46 - that's a shame. I think the M5 and M6 are killing this car's potential. I'm sure the car will handle great as my M3 does, however BMW needs to take a page from US automakers and start increasing the torque.

I don't see why everyone is bashing the M3 for it's torque output. Torque is proportional to the displacement. 295lb-ft is amazing coming from 4L. If you scale it up to 7L then the BMW would have got 516lb-ft and 590lb-ft if it was a 8L like the Viper.

The car sounds dynamite -- alone. If it was the M3 vs the RS4 side-by-side, the RS4 sounds better. It has a harder edge to it. The looks are growing on me. The E46 was (and still is) absolutely perfect; the definition of what M3 style should be, but this one is just a bit too effeminate. Maybe it'll be better in person.

"BMW cars are luxury car first, then performance cars second."
...Said by someone who knows nothing about the company's history. Maybe you were thinking of Mercedes Benz?

I was interested to see a standard 6-speed as opposed to their smg transmission.

If BMW was a performance company foremost, then they would not have to make CSL models. They would have 'CSL' as the standard model, and would make a special tarted up luxo model, of their perfomance cars.
It has been a long time since the 2002
295ft-lbs from 4 liters stinks, Toyota claimed the 1998 Lexus GS400 made 310ft-lbs. Dual length intake manifold and only variable intake valve timing.

yes tame, but more well belanced since it has far more luxuries that add weight.

All I have to say is the 2008 C63 AMG, 6.3 liter, V8 de-tuned to 457 HP AND 443 Lbs of torque is in there too. Looks better and sounds better. and with minimal tuning can reach over 500+HP. Way more agressive looking too! -cheers
