Skyline turning 50, Nissan to celebrate in Tokyo

1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO
On April 24, 2007, the Nissan Skyline turns 50 years old, and Nssan is going to celebrate. For starters, there's already a JDM 50th Anniversary version of the current Skyline (Infiniti G35) on sale in three distinct color combos. In addition to that, however, the automaker is staging an exhibition in midtown Tokyo called Grand Touring - The Legend and the Future in which examples of all twelve generations of Skyline will be displayed. As you might have guessed from the name, there will also be information on the history of Japanese grand touring and its future direction. The exhibit will run from April 24 to May 6.
In other news, the Autoblog staffers wish they had an unlimited travel budget. Sadly, that's not the case, so we'll have to make do with the gallery below, which shows one example from each generation of the Skyline. Enjoy.

Wait a minute that is the new R35. What happened to the styling the Prototype had. This final incarnation looks like the Infiniti G35. I was getting all my newspaper route money together to buy one. I will have to go more in depth at http://cars.iconicpoint.com.

Your one of those people that knows very litle of the skyline. That is the normal skyline sedan(infiniti G35) and the G37 is the skyline coupe.
The skyline has always been a sedan and a coupe.
The GT-R is coming later this year it wont longer be based on the skyline coupe it will be a totaly diverent car.

Yes, in Japan they call the US Infiniti G35 and the new G37 coming out the Skyline. If you watch the new Best motoring Battle videos, the Infiniti G35 is the Nissan Skyline. In fact there is no such thing as Infiniti over there, they are all Nissan.

The outgoing Skyline/G35 had the chassis code V35, not R like the previous ones. R referred to the inline-6 engine, which ended with the R34.

#1 - To add to what others have already said, the Skyline is just a mid-size RWD car. In addition to sedan and coupe forms, there have also been convertible (1st gen BLRA3 Skyline Sport) and wagon form (3rd gen C10 through 7th gen R31. From the 9th gen onward, the wagon was spun off into a separate line called the Stagea). You can see pictures of some of these in our Events gallery at www.japanesenostalgiccar.com. Yes, this is a shameless plug.
The GT-R is the turbocharged AWD monster. Kind of like the difference between an Olds 442 and a Cutlass.

This is the next GT-R. I spotted this in Arizona a few weeks ago. They were not happy to see me with my camera.

You've come a long way baby. I love 60s and early 70s Japanese cars.... so funky and ugly in a cool way. I am dead serious.

Kids and their Skylines prove that rice is alive and well in 2007. Just because they don't have a civic with a spoiler doesn't mean they're not clowns.
If only I had a dollar for every time I saw some dork on a G35 coupe with "Nissan Skyline" logos...

jj, the G35 IS the Skyline, or did you miss that?

Care to explain how rebadging an Infiniti G35 as a Nissan Skyline is any less rice than rebadging an Acura RSX as a Honda Integra?
Have fun with that one.
Oh and with the nissans you get the coffee-can exhausts STOCK! W00T! Freaking comic when you look at them from the side - 1" pipe going into a 4" exhaust tip. Ricetastic.

"A G35 and acura RSX are rebadged not the other way."
Have you ever bought a car in the United States? That's right, they're sold as "Infiniti G35" and "Acura RSX".
Have fun with your JDM badges. I heard they get you mad chicks, yo. You won't even need to sweet talk them with ATESSA and VTEC.
Rice is rice is rice is rice is rebadging is rice.

I personally think that the reverse rebadging is just another way to personalize your vehicle and shun off some of the pretenses that exist about americans that they can't spend x,y,z $'s on a japanese car if it has a japanese sounding name, hence the reasons for ac,lex, inf, in the first place. What get's you chicks jj? Pimpin around your bone stock piece of Detroit Craposteel? oh wait, I almost forgot, yo?

Hah, every car I've ever owned is japanese but nice try on the stereotype label.
So when you get pulled over in your appearence-mods-only Infiniti "Nissan" G35 "Skyline" do you sit there and argue with the officer about the make and model? Do you try to get out of parking tickets because your aftermarket badges don't match what's on the ticket?
Rice is rice is rice.

How much of an argument could there be Mr.Dy-No-Mite? "Your right officer it is an Infiniti G35 as the documentation states, but I replaced the badging to personalize it a bit to something more of my liking. Is that a crime officer? No? Oh, only in JJ-land, okay I'll be on my way then." What do you have against appearance only mods anyway? I mean some are a bit carried away, like when you see the typical mid 90's civic with a park bench for a spoiler. But other than, who cares, it's their car. You must have been in a real tizzy the day the racing stripe was invented.

Hey bright guy, no one said the rebadging itself was a crime. Nice straw man. The crime was your unsafe tail light modifications and exhaust dB level.
The point is, just how far are you going to take your silly ricetastic facade? Of course, if your reading comprehension level was above that of a 3rd grader you'd already know that.
Rice is rice is rice.

In you gripe regarding "ricers" you mentioned appearance-only mods as the premise of your anti-ricing barrage. Now you apparently have the public well-being in mind with your little taillight/noise pollution bit. All just a weak attempt to justify your disgust with the "ricer" sector. You attempt insinuate that the behaviours are irresponsible and detrimental to the public, as a rationale for why you feel that the way you maintain your automobile is the 'right'way, and the way 'they' do it is the wrong way. These "ricers" are this generation's "hot-rodders", get with the times my friend. It's okay to live a little, don't be such a snob, it's only cars JJ.
JJ is JJ is JJ.

well... I wouldn't mind 'ricers' so much if they didn't sound and look like SHIT.
But whatever...
Can't really compare 'ricers' with 'hot rodders'. since hot rods looked cool ;) IMO, of course *rolls eyes*

I agree #19 hot rods win for me in landslide too, but that's just the closest modern day equivalent. But there were people back in those days who thought the vehicles were being blasphemed as well.
