You drove a car with summer tires to the Chicago show? I'm not sure whether you deserve to have your driver's license confiscated or a medal.
My blog entry on getting to Chicago with winter tires:
http://www.truedelta.com/blog/?p=26
In it I discuss how winter tires are not a guarantee, mostly for one reason: you have no control over the guy in the next lane.
At least you were keeping your speed down. I had people flying by me with all-seasons at times when I knew the road was covered with black ice. And I suspect that I90 wasn't as bad as I94, or you most likely would have ended up off the road. I94 was perhaps the worst ice I've ever encountered on an Interstate. I was scared, and I don't scare easily.
On the car, I've driven the regular G35. I hope to drive a Sport soon, now that winter is leaving Detroit.
