VIDEO: VW Passat R36 "The Battle" commercial

VW's Passat R36 is, unquestionably, the coolest-looking Passat you (assuming "you" live on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean) can buy today. With its slammed-to-the-ground stance, 10-spoke wheels, and aggressive-looking aero bits, it looks more like a product that should be sporting four rings on the grille and not the circular "VW" badge. Oh, and 300 horsepower doesn't hurt, either. Volkswagen worked with OPTIX Digital Pictures to create the TV spot we've embedded after the jump, which depicts one of the R36 wagons in a race against an arrow launched from an archer's bow. Sure, it doesn't really make a lot of sense, but the car's a hot number and the music's good. Also, because it's a European spot, it's refreshingly devoid of the usual CYA legalese on-screen disclaimers, because Europeans don't need to be told that racing Robin Hood's arrow can be dangerous.
UPDATE: Added the YouTube version after the jump as well for those if you who had trouble w/ the Netscape Video.

I have never bought from the same mftr twice in a row but for that, I might get another VW. The wagon is so much better looking than the sedan.
I am curious about getting blinded by the dash trim.
I still think the back end of the sedan looks like a buick lucerne....

How come all the VOA products sit up like SUV's?

It's a super-hot car, esp. the wagon variant. You'd think that the success of the Magnum would have shown other automakers that powerful, distinctive wagons can sell in the US.

I'm waiting to see the price, but if its not under 33K then the MazdaSpeed 6 is a much better deal IMO (For the sedan at least.) Specially considering that people are getting the non leather equipped version for under 25K.

I think it's the same thing... Netscape video wouldn't play from where I am so I found this.
Oh, I don't know about the wagon, but I'd rock the sedan - and that's a hot color too.

It takes a year to do the engineering and certification required for US homologization. If (big IF) VW decides US consumers are ready to actually buy a sufficient number of this souped-up station wagon rather than SUVs/CUVs, I expect they will take it across the pond. Right now, that seems unlikely, if only because the profit margin on e.g. the upcoming Tiguan is probably higher.

Wagon, US, Please.
If they brought this over, I'd consider going against my bias and buy a VW.

I wish they'd bring US requirements closer to those of EU which are close to rest of the world. Unfortunately at the moment it seems like there are the NA reqs, and then the rest of the world. I hate that, that's the primary reason why we don't get many good cars here in US. Another example of our government's way saying "We love you...NOT!"

33k?? Loaded V6 Passat wagon sells even now for 37k +, R36, with ground effects, better engine and all the interior upgrades, and the fact that it will be limited edition will be around $40000 for sure.

Cool. But a Volvo V70R is cooler, and already here.

Oooo! That's one nice hot rod wagon. Too bad it's out of my price range. Still, it's nice just to know it exists!

I wrote VW. No plans to bring R36 to states at this time. It's the same as US Passat 3.6 4Motion but with 20 HP more, cooler interior AND 6spd DSG!!!. What I wouldn't give for a wagon like that!!!

Yeah I didn't want to guesstimate and get flamed so I figured I would try to be as PC as could be. In reality the MS6 and the Legacy Spec-B are much better deals.

Wow that is one hot wagon that we will probably not see here in the states. I love the color blue VW uses for their "R" series.... really hot!
