Forum busts hit and run RSX
Take one part Acura RSX, add two parts moron, a pinch of speed, whoops, too much! Crashing into someone and speeding away is a bad idea in any case, but with the internet shrinking the globe, it's especially dumb now. Members of Canada's Beyond.ca automotive forums came to the rescue of a Mercedes driver that absorbed the kinetic energy these young knuckleheads didn't manage to scrub off in time. A quick thinking forum member just happened to be right there with his DSLR and monster lens and snapped several nice, clear pictures of these jerks zipping away from the scene. Beyond.ca member three33 created a post asking others to be on the lookout for a silver RSX that'd cracked up his buddy's car. In a masterstroke of serendipity, fellow forum member CalgaryDave (whose pix show up on Beyond as his friend TypeS - long story, explained here with more details) was just a little further back. Thinking quickly, CalgaryDave hopped out into the street and captured incriminating evidence that removes any chance of lying your way out of it. PWNED. Don't mess with the internet.

Years ago, in London, I happened to glance out of my office window and saw an Aston Martin clip the rear corner of a properly parked Ford Cortina wagon. The AM driver didn't stop and disappeared, but I took down his license plate details. I wrote a message for the Cortina driver, giving him the AM details and my name and telephone number.
He called back a month later and said he was hugely grateful as the chassis of his car was written off and only when told there was a witness did the AM driver fess up and take insurance responibility.

Two years ago I stopped at Bayview Village Mall in Toronto to pick up something. When I came out about twenty minutes later two gentlemen were waiting for me. It seems some idiot parked beside me (not there when I parked) driving an old Lincoln Town car and had gouged the rear door my wife's new mazda3 and tore off the rear bumper. The jerk didn't even stop, just took right off. The two people (father and son) got a good description and most of the plate and waited about ten minutes for me to arrive back at the car.
The police found the perp which saved us the $500 deductable (no fault auto insurance sucks in these cases). What really ticked me off was the fact the police didn't charge this guy with leaving the scene of an accident.

You'd only be in deep shit for photographing minors if the parents wanted to press charges. This douchbag's mother called the cops and actually told them her son was coming in to confess. RTFA.

Dumbass hit-n-runners. Awesome that someone was vigilant and quick with the camera.
I was hit-n-run once (which totaled my 99% resored 66 VW Beetle). I was able to get the girl's plate # and she was busted the next morning. She was 16 and drunk! >:(

In Calgary the odds are pretty good liqour was envolved. Years ago I was caught in a long lineup for a road check, just before entering Calgary. All over the highway were cases of beer that people had slid under their car while waiting. Case upon cases of beer littered the highway and I had to be carefull to straddle them. They probably would have had to block off the highway to collect all the booze.
