VIDEO: Audi S5 glamour shots

It looks like Ingolstadt has been humming along, readying the S5 for sale. Tipster dasboost pointed us to this video of S5 eye candy. It's nice to get close up angles of some details on this hot-looking coupe. Audi typically sweats the details, especially on the inside, and the S5 looks like it faithfully follows that tradition. We like the chiseling that goes on outside - it's a slight evolution of the Audi design ethos, and perfect for a coupe, lending a more muscular appearance. Hopefully nobody has read this far into the post, as we expect everyone's going to skip over all of our babble and go straight to the video, which is after the jump. If you did read this far, what are you doing? Go and watch the video!

All the fancy PR videos don't change the fact that this is the most boring Audi the world has ever seen.

Boring, think it will be under 2 tons?

Wow, I wonder why they decided to have such a calm, still mood to the video. Is this a static work of art or a dynamic "driver's car"? It just doesn't look like the car is any fun - where's all the brake dust from slowing down just before the hairpin turns? Where's the dirt and mud from the apex of those hairpin turns? I realize the lighting shifting across a clean car highlights the shape, but fine road-spray patterns do the same thing, AND make the car look way more dynamic.

David,
you just answered your own question. That calm video just made you interested enough to go take it for drive to see if it is boring as you think it is or if it kicks ass, WHICH IT MOST PROBABLY DOES.
I think it's a good looking car.

The lighting, mood and music were good for highlighting the outter styling of the car, but were not correct for the interior.

I'm having my son ask "mom" if I can trade my 2006 A4 3.2 S-line for the S5 when available...since she wasn't too thrilled when I asked if I could get a 2007 RS4...I'm sure the S5 will be at least $10-$15K less than the RS...so look at how I'm helping the family budget!!!! I'm Audi-biased, but this is a sweet design (although from some angles...especially the rear...the resemblance to 335i creeps in)

#2 David You obviously have really bad taste and know nothing about automotive design. These new autos coming from Audi are some of the purest and most dynamic designs we have seen in years. I am so looking forward to seeing one of these in person and getting behind the wheel. I was getting so sick of cars just a few years ago -everything seemed so robot-mechanical and unemotional. BMW went overboard trying to be Independent and MB went backward boring us to death. Audi has taken the middle path and explored both pure automotive design and super advanced mechanics. I have fallen in love with AUDI's new direction and Im so looking forward to the new a4,6,8 body designs. They have literally forged a new place in history with all this new diesel technology. Im just now waiting for more environmental conciousness from AUDI and they will be undeniablly supreme among the worlds auto companies.

to #10. I agree with you 100%. When i was younger in the mind i used to think the extravagant looks of bmw's and such were amazing design. However when you look (especially in person) at audi's you realize how much class and genius there is in their designs. I personally can't wait to see this a5 in person. Audi's designs represents a mature understanding of art & design. If you cant tell the difference between a finely tailored suit and a normal suit, you are the type of person who would find this design boring.

I like the design of all Audis. Except the A5/S5. By "boring", I don't mean boring to drive etc, I can't judge as I haven't driven it. It looks boring. Very. It might be elegant and simplistic, but it's dull. It doesn't have the personality of, say, an A3 Sportback or the passion and aggression of the new TT (let alone the R8). I don't like it. May I please do so without random people telling me I have a bad taste, thank you very much.

And to name something I like about it: the rear end. Even though it looks a bit like a 3 series (overall shape) or an AM V8 Vantage (taillights, trunklid). But that's not enough, I'm afraid.

It probably handles much better with the new chassis design, but it looks boring, predictable.

David, I'm an industrial designer and I think its boring. I own a TT and have been an Audi fan since my Dad's Audi 100 in '83

a FWD $45k car with 200HP, wtf
Audi must think we all are going to eat their crap up for dinner,
opps, but then again they barely sale 6000 cars a month in the US, adn the 3-series alon outsell the whole Audi line-up
my guess, this wnt help thing much, asn teh new G35 coupe is coming up to eat Adis lunch, and I'd bet the G35 coupe will outrun even this S5 they are showing for 1/2 the price and 3times the reliability
look up Audi adn you'll see they berely make average on teh reliability for their cars. hehehe
and I agree that this car is BORING as hell, the new Camaro looks more furious adn will outgun this sucker as well
and Audi's management is angry adn can't understand why they can't sell more cars in America!

Having seen the finalized car in person testing in Spain, I can attest to the fact that the pictures (and this video) don't do this car any justice. My first impression of this car in person is that it has a very aggressive look, mainly due to it's proportions. And that is hard to see in any photos, but the car actually looks quite low and wide, witha very aggressive stance.
Not seeing it side by side, but my guess would have to be that this car is quite a bit lower and perhaps wider than a 3 series coupe, and in person it looks much more aggressive and the proportions are much more "sports car-like" than the 3. Some cars must be seen in person to be appreciated, and I think this is one.

Whoever thinks this car is boring, has some pretty bad taste. Yeah I said it, this car is beautiful, inside and out. Oh and for the guy with the reliability, if you take a look at consumer reports, you'll see that Audi is the most reliable German manufacturer in the world. Also don't compare that Japanese junk to this car. The G37 looks like crap, it could be twice as fast and I still wouldn't touch that classless ugly car. Oh and about the sales, they sell more cars thank BMW and MB combined in England. They are looking at global dominance, and are well on their way.
