The spy photogs at KGP Photography report that there are likely up to two dozen Ford F-150 development mules out on the roads around Detroit as the Blue Oval attempts to tweak its best seller to better meet the new competition from General Motors and Toyota head on. Many of the mules show little or no exterior design changes, but they did catch this mule with a heavily masked front end that's hiding a version of Ford's corporate three-bar grille. The covering is likely hiding changes to the entire front end, including the bumper and headlights, as well. Nearly all variations of the F-150 have been caught testing, including a couple odd-balls that aren't in the current lineup. Click through to read KGP's account of what they've seen so far.

Since 1972 fords F-150 trucks have been the best. Each generation gets better and better with no equals even to talk about. The three bar grilles will be standard on all upcomming ford models and I think it looks great. I drive a 01 F-150 supercrew with almost 200.000 miles on it, and the only thing I ever repalced is a coil pack. Sell it or trade it in, NEVER, but I do plan to add a new one to my garage soon.

#15 I have to disagree with you on wheel hop on ALL Mustangs. I own a 2007 Mustang GT/California Special with a 5 speed and have no problems with wheel hop at all. True, Ford really needs to get off it's Butt and make the 2009 F150 an incredible truck, if not, Ford is practically done. I have been a Ford man all my life and my Mustang is the 19th Ford I have owned. If they keep building them, I'll keep buying them. I just hope they keep the new F150 true to it's roots. I need a new F150 by 2009 so I hope they get it right.

I hope Ford makes the front end somewhat aerodynamic as opposed the the big squared off boxes that GM is using.

The front should be sloped downward like the current F650/F750 models. Just think of a smaller F650 with a sloped front end with a pronounced "Power Bulge" in the hood similar to a "Shaker Hood" - that would be spot on.

And put a small DIESEL in it!!!!!

      P R N D 3 2 1 is so 1960's
Sure there is a button at the end of the column shifter, but will that be labeled OD off.
What does that mean when the ZF 6hp26 has two overdrive gears?

      Dear Ford,

Please try really really hard NOT to screw up the F-150! :) Really just try. It might be hard but really don't. The base Mustang, Mustang GT and well for some reason NO SN-197 MUSTANGS have an Independent Rear Suspension (except the SN-95 Cobra 2003-2004). The Focus is well great for 2001, but I think the 2008 Model year cars are coming out so MAYBE Canada(at least) and the USA deserves the C1 Platform Euro Focus. How about it?

And The Crown Victoria is just so perfect as is. Please never change it. I would never want to forget what 1982 Full size American cars should be, and the 2008 Focus is SO beautiful. Oh wow. And the Taurus and Taurus X, talk about perfection! MUCH better then the Five Hundred and Freestyle. AND the Ranger is just again perfection. No improvement needed there either! And the New 2008 Ford Escape is just so much better then the old 2007 Ford Escape because DRUM Breaks are better then DISC breaks. And please Just keep the European Ford Fiesta, Mondeo, Focus, Galaxy, and S-max in Europe. We just really don’t need them here. Please no good cars for USA and Canada.

So whatever you have in-store for the North American Market for the F-150 must be absolutely sensational. DON'T outdo yourselves. In-fact don't even try, we will buy one out of pity not for pride. Really any truck you slap a F-150 Badge on we will buy just to keep it #1.

      Thank you.

I can't wait to see the next design for the F-150. The top motor on the truck needs to have well over 350 hp to compete with the Tundra and Silverado. #2, I don't think Ford will screw up the F-150, because if you look at what they have done with the Fusion and Edge, the next F-150 should be a big improvement.

*no room that is and one other thing..and I hope someone at Ford is reading this..please relocate the tie down on the side of the flareside. Its tacky, and takes away from the smooth lines. Or better yet, make them optional!
please ford no 3-bar grille on the f150. sure it looks good on cars and crossovers but your truck? no, make the grille something like the expy or super duty. make it look tough by not putting a passenger car grille on it.

#15 I hope you are wrong...I like the new expedition but it was too safe of a makeover. As far as this being a refresh...I don't see how that is possible..wont it be on an updated bigger frame? The whole truck should be redesigned inside and out. This is the F150, not some little Focus or something. This and the Mustang are Ford. I don't see how it could be just a mere refresh. What I really want to see in the future is the abundance of flaresides. For some reason in 96 (with the new 97 model) Ford made and sold tons of flaresides. The new style its like they are a rare find! I wanted one in 03 but nowhere to be found! Also, as well as some new engine choices, I want PAINTED or CHROMED door handles. No more unpainted plastic it is so tacky and fades. Of course the 6 speed auto as well, and thats on the way with the engines. If Ford can do this, especially offering the diesels, they can keep the crown for another 30 years or even more. I know lots of you dislike Ford for one reason or another, but this is the F150, the truck, the best selling vehicle in the US and the world. Theres no rom for playing around. Hear me Ford..do me proud and bring me a new F150 I can park along side my 04.

      Dear RG,

CUSTOMERS WANT what FORD tells them to want. FORD was going to put a Independent Rare Suspension (IRS) on the SN-197 Mustang, but in the end did not. That was a large focal point of criticism towards Ford. AT LEAST and Special Edition and models above the Mustang GT trim level should have an IRS. Also All Mustangs have bad wheel hop, ALL! IT IS VERY easy to get Euro Fords in North America. Just use the designs and build them here OR import them, not very hard at all.

I say YES to rename the Ranger to the F-100 or F-50, creating a new Lightning to put the Dodge RAM SRT-10 to shame, and then Diesel F-150's also. Not just Diesel Trucks. Imagine this, wait for it; wait for it, Diesel Engines in Ford Cars.

America is not Europe, but we don't have to shun what they do better since they focus on cars(not trucks), handling(not power) and Diesel(not gas) engines.

      FORD you should listen to #7, #10, #11, #12, #13, #14.

Whoever is first to put a new small Diesel with outstanding power, reliability, durability and fuel economy into the half-ton pick-ups is going to be a big winner.

Real trucks have Diesels damn it.
