Now Playing: Revised GM ad, sans suicide, humor
This story is more played out than Monica Lewinsky jokes, so we'll say that officially, this is the last time we'll mention the inanity of pulling GM's dreaming, suicidal robot ad. The lawyers have won and the new ending is playing over at GM's page on dependability. We're not going to spoil the revised conclusion for you, we'll just say that it really, truly, undeniably sucks and it probably isn't worth the amount of effort it would take to click here to view it.[Source: Brandweek]

As requested, here's the link to the Daily Show's alternate ending:

The segment about the GM ad begins 1:45 into the clip, and the alternate ending itself is shown about 2:30 in.

Now GM has answered the question of... how much worse could they handle one issue? There is no hope for a company that trips over its own shoelaces as often as GM does on the most minor decision.
Sheesh, what a bunch of spineless, overpid morons.

Oh come on, the revised ad really isn't that bad. Every company bows to external pressures in the interest of saving face, so don't try and say this is part of some long litany of reasons for the Big 3's downfall.
You people love to make mountains out of molehills.

GM has some creativity in their ad agencies. Remember the Corvette ad with the two kids? GM buckled on that one, too. GM needs to lose its appease everyone please everyone mentality if it's going to win either in the market or its advertising. They need to get back some of the guts they exhibited when the sued NBC for lying about GM pick up trucks.

The USA... "Land of the pansies"..."Land of the offended"..."Land of freedom of speech (as long as it doesn't upset anyone else)"...
Such a shame that so much of that freedom of expression has been litigated into obscurity over the last few decades. Don't like the commercial? Fine go buy a Mitsubishi. Geesh sometime I get sooo offended by these offended groups! But I guess I'm not the proper "persuation" to matter.

Does the ad even make sense any more?

Bill Maher and Dennis Miller both agree we are now (and have been) a land of pussies. That shit won't last long if we get into another war, because it seems PC always goes away for awhile when somebody picks a fight with us. Groups such as the one that complained about GM's commercial have just enough power through having a lawyer, or having just a token minority leader. Oooh, yeah, I said it.

The new ending is lame and the message isn't clear.
Would have been better for GM to tell the suicide prevention weenies to jump from their favorite bridge--ridiculously PC to complain about that commercial.
Must admit that I felt sorry for the robot which seemed like an especially lovable and sensitive android.

-They have handled this in a way that doubled the value of this entirely brilliant ad campaign. But you surely could have done this, and ran a $20B company, sooo much better. Instead you watch youtube all day. And you can't spell.
