The 2008 Porsche Cayenne will be at dealerships this Saturday, February 24th, awaiting new owners with wallets big enough to tame the German sports car maker's only SUV. Clearly, there are many equestrians who need the Cayenne's combination of sport, utility and exclusivity to haul around their thoroughbreds, as the picture above, one of many released today by Porsche, illustrates. Make no mistake, however, the new Cayenne is no gelding. In fact, all three models have received a significant bump in power thanks to the addition of direction injection. The base model increases 40 hp to 290 hp, the S gets 45 hp more to make 385 hp and the Turbo S jumps a full 50 hp to a nice, round 500 hp (Those are European numbers. Despite the increases, Porsche claims that each engine consumes 15% less fuel.

As for the 2008 model's styling, most of the changes occur up front to the Cayenne's polarizing front fascia. Its looks were always unmistakeably that of a Porsche, and that hasn't changed. The soft face up front has been changed to be much more aggressive with new headlights and larger air intakes. We have to say that the only model we find even remotely attractive is the Turbo S thanks to its trademark LED lights within the outer intakes. The intakes on the base and S model, however, just come off as gratuitously large. We have 85 high-rseolution shots of 2008 Porsche Cayenne to help you make up your own mind.
Check out the official press release for Euro pricing after the jump. We'll keep you updated on the U.S. versions, which should be around next month.

PRESS RELEASE:
New Cayenne available from dealers from Saturday
Stuttgart – The second generation of the sporty all-terrain Cayenne is preparing for launch: the new models will be waiting in the sales rooms of the 86 German Porsche centers from Saturday, February 24, 2007. Thanks to the newly developed engines with gasoline direct injection, they are distinguished by higher performance combined with lower fuel consumption. In real operating conditions, savings of up 15 percent are possible, and CO2 emissions are also correspondingly lower. All Cayenne models come with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) featuring brake assist, advanced vehicle stabilization and off-road ABS as standard. The vehicles can also be fitted with the new Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDDC), which limits its roll angle on corners.
As Porsche has already sold more than 150,000 units of the Cayenne's predecessor model, Bernhard Maier, Managing Director of Porsche Deutschland GmbH, is confident that the new Cayenne models will continue this success: "Although our customers have only been able to experience these vehicles through test reports so far, we already have more new orders than for any other model change. We are convinced that the new Cayenne will lend fresh momentum to our business in Germany."
In Germany the basic model costs €51,735 Euros, the more powerful S version costs €66,610

What's up with that steering wheel? Looks like it belongs in one of those supermarket spaceship kiddie rides.

what is the purpose of this thing?..it obviously is not even close to off roadable, even if you could afford to pay that kind of silly money for it....would you?

ahahha
is that guy actually USING that SUV? hahah.
That's hilarious, because no one does. 99% of Cayenne owners are soccer moms who wasted $50,000 instead of getting the superior VW competitor to this car. To some people, brand name is all that matters, it doesn't matter how crappy the car is.
Case in point: C-class and 3-series

The previous version only had the 3.2VR6, and the non turbo V8 was completely torqueless only 310ft-lbs from 4.5 liters, so good upgrades.
Mini-spare/collapseable or full size spare wheel?
Red turn signals, please tell me it ain't so. That is as bad a bangle-izing a vehicle. LED taillights but no LED (besides CHMSL) brake lights, how very non german/porsche.
Why is the EU worrying about DRLs when Hella and other aftermarket have that covered, when BrakeAssist is a bigger problem.
All vehicles should be required to have positive LED brake lights at all three spots, and the CHMSL should be the only place for adaptive brake force lighting-(goes from 1/3 width to 3/3 width)
and using fog lights with HID headlights, verboten!
and what is with porsche using an H11 bulb for high beam, fine if the lows are bi-projector HIDs. Good positioning of the cornering lamp H8

i love my 2006 Cayenne S. have it for over one year, put over 20K miles on it already and not a single problem.
i'm tired of people saying "oh 99% of the people buying it don't go off-roading". well 99% of the folks buying sports cars don't compete on the drag strips, don't test drive the local oval track or tear up the Laguna Seca road course either.
so what if i can afford my luxury German automobile and you can't!

It's always the same couple of guys making derogatory comments about the Cayenne whenever an article about the car appears. Makes you wonder...If these people don't like the car, why they keep reading about it?

I adore my CayenneS! 30k miles, and no problems. It's a fabulous horse suv, and handles great off road. The Brunderup trailers work quite well with my sexy suv, and turns a few heads(in a good way)! The people who make nasty comments about it are just jealous, and have no taste. You have to have own one to know one.

Find another SUV that can tow as much as a Cayenne can, in its size range.
You can't, except for its VW sibling.
It's not just speed, its power, and it makes its competitors look like the ones who are fake "Utility".

Do these come w/ Bluetooth from the factory yet? Or has Porsche even heard of Bluetooth yet?
