The Chrysler Group has announced that the production version of the Dodge Challenger will be unveiled at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show exactly one year from now. We have 356 days to wait until the first official challenger, so to speak, to the Ford Mustang's dominance will enter the ring. Until then, the current Challenger Concept vehicle will be accompanied by a countdown clock at every auto show it attends this year, just to remind Challenger fans how many more saving days, minutes and seconds are left. We're extremely eager see to what changes will be made on the production version of the Challenger since the concept looks almost ready to go right now. It will be the first coupe built on Chrysler's LX platfrom and, as we reported yesterday, will be built alongside its siblings, the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Magnum, at the company's Brampton, Ontario plant.

Is 2007 a short year or something?
Rocket Punch @ Feb 15th 2007 5:39PM
Just in time for the next oil crisis.

Must be an issue with exchange rates. Lose a few percent when converting from Canadian days to American or something...

#2: You're no fun.

Seems like Dodge could use some different products to save their own finacial status

Spycam: Dodge aims at Edge with crossover
DCX targets Ford's crucial crossover
There's an Edge competitor in Ford's future. It's this Dodge, codenamed JC49 and built on the longer Dodge Avenger/Chrysler Sebring version of the GS platform that also underpins the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass.
The JC49 is a crossover sport/utility with two rows of seats to combat the just-released Ford Edge. Engines are likely to be the 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter V-6s and, if needed, the 2.4-liter four (though V-6-only options would compete more directly with the Ford).
About a year after the JC49's late 2007 release, Chrysler division will get its own version to replace the Pacifica crossover.
This is the product Dodge needs, considering how heavy the Durango is and the terrible fuel milage, and the Nitro is just a longer version of the Jeep with a Dodge grille

The auto show opens to the press about a week before it opens to the public. The press preview should be 2/1/08.

#7, I read that section in MT. I think it is great that Dodge is going to compete in new segments, but they better come with an interior that is WAY BETTER than current Dodge interiors to compete with the Edge.

I completely agree #9, Dodge interiors need to be better if they want to rebound from these staggering finacial losses

I make more then 90 percent of the population and I still won't be able to afford one of these new cars. That was the same problem when they were new 35 years ago! I will just stay with my 2006 Mustang convertable, it may not have a independent rear end but I can't tell any how!
NoNameDenton @ Feb 15th 2007 8:22PM
I much prefer live rear axle anyway, when the SVT Cobra had an IRS it had a lot of axle shaft halfs break, I feel safe with a solid rear axle, and if I want IRS, Ford left the new Mustang with the ability to have axles switched

I can't wait to hear about all the "Made in Canada" complaints after the recent job loss announcements. Remember Canada is also losing 2000 jobs in this DCX mess as well.
Barney @ Feb 15th 2007 9:07PM
Thats providing the maker is still around and if that factory isn't one that is being closed.
We don't need a car like this but someone will buy it. Nostalgia comes at a big price.
mike @ Feb 15th 2007 9:21PM
It looks cool but I saw the new camaro at the auto show and it is AWESOME. Sorry dodge.
NoNameDenton @ Feb 15th 2007 10:57PM
mike has a point, the new Camaro and the next Mustang when they change all the panels except the top will be awesome cars because even though they have a slightly retor look, they combine 21st century design as well
PhillipT @ Feb 16th 2007 12:42AM
Hmmm, how many american muscle car guys agree with the gian "made in canada" sticker... I was expecting some Canadian jokes. Even though the Camaro is being built in Oshwa, or what ever, they dont stick the giant made in Canda sticker on the American Muscle car.

Is this part of the whole Daylight-Savings-Time-messing-up-your-computer things? Last time I checked there were 365 days in a year.
Glenn @ Feb 16th 2007 3:22AM
Made in Canada goes back generations. Mexico is often thought of as part of the same group, but it was added with Free Trade, and does not have any of the historic link behind it.
Don't worry .. a lot of classic American cars got their roots in Canada (Gosh, rent the DVD "The Arrow" - referring to the Aveo Arrow supersonic airplane -which contends NASA core of engineers came out of Canada).
Second -- it seems to be taking forever for this car to get to production, considering it was based off an existing plateform. It should have beat the Comaro by years, but that does not seem to be the case.
Glenn @ Feb 16th 2007 3:24AM
sorry that is Avro Arrow ... o-:
