So the embargo on material for the new 2007 Dodge Sprinter lifted at midnight last night. Yeah, we forgot about it, too. Nevertheless, the Sprinter's in a class by itself when it comes to commercial vans offered by the Big 3 (2.5, whatever). The 2007 model is all new and gets crazy with the dimensions adding a Super Size model for those who always want fries with that. Compared to last year's largest model, the new Sprinter has increases in width (two inches), interior height (11 inches), exterior height (13 inches), cargo area length (19 inches), vehicle length (30 inches), cargo volume (127 cu. ft.), and towing capacity (2,500 lbs.). For the discriminating business owner, there are no less than three vehicles lengths, two wheelbases, three interior roof heights, and two engines. The two new motors are a 3.0L V6 diesel that produces 154 horsepower and 280 ft-lbs. of torque at 1,200 to 2,400 rpm, and a 3.5L gas V6 making 254 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs. of torque at 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. Both engines are routed through a five-speed automatic. In its largest form, the new Sprinter can swallow 600 cubic feet of stuff in one bite. No doubt the courier industry is excited to see the new 2007 Sprinter, even if we aren't.

27mpg was for the little ones - I have a short height, short wheelbase 2500 & can get 30mpg highway if i stay @ 55mph.

Maybe if it had the 7g-tronic, then it would be 'sprinty'

Quite an improvement in looks. Any word on if that's a Chrysler Group 3.5L or a Mercedes 3.5L gasser?

Why does it seem like a lot of the more recent cars look surprised. compare this sprinter to the older one, this one looks like the old one would if you had just jammed a broomstick up its tailpipe!

You know, if you drive one of these, it IS a sprinter compared to anything else of it's size. You guys can knock it, but I am seriously looking at one as a mini-toy hauler, and after seeing how well they drive, the amazing fuel economy, and amazing space, I can see what they cost what they do....

Laugh if you want to, but first time you go 95 mph on the Autobahn and one of those is filling your rear view mirror, you know why they call it the Sprinter.

Chryslers, ha ha. There isn't VVT by definition, you need two camshafts per head. They don't have VCT, like Ford's 4.6&5.4 V8s or GM OHV engines.

Same decorative heatsink on engine controller.
Same quote engine speed range of peak torque.
C350 268hp@6000, 258ft-lbs 2400-5000.
here 254hp, 250ft-lbs 2500-5000.
so just regular fuel?, solo intake air filter and more complicated exhaust account for the 14hp difference.

This truck fits a commercial operators dream with the low maintenance costs and ample interior room. The truck cab looks to be cramped and probably won't do as well. Alas, the $$ cost convinces me to keep the Econoline a few more years.

That is a Mercedes Sprinter with a Dodge sticker on the Front...
All Sprinter are build in 2plants in Germany and in one plant in Argentina.
With the large engine they can easy go over the 100mph mark.. making them faster as most ecobox shopping cars.. because they are no trucks they have no truck speed limit on the Autobahn and can go as fast as car... making them perfect for fast transport. There is the answer why they are called Sprinter..
Mercedes VW made 1.3million Sprinter of the old version befor they switched to this new one last year... there is a giant market for such fast transports in the world.

That's actually just the 129 hp version. Diesels go up to 184 hp and there's also a 258 hp petrol. These things go like stink (and are driven by overworked, underpaid lunatics who don't have the time to make prisoners, so it's really not a good idea to get in their way...).

#2: This thing has a top speed between 100 and 120mph. This should at least qualify it for the name "Runner".

Chrysler are onto a winner, Only fools underrate the Sprinter, People stuck in there beliefs that old fashioned gas hogs like the Econoline and Express vans with 5.7 liter are better, Time will tell, look around you, the large companies are buying the M/B Dodge, they know it makes sense.
Europe has many decent hard working vans, they are loaded with smart features, not stripped vans like the American companies seem to build.
Ford, GM, VW, Nissan, and Toyota all have a range of smart Diesel or Gas powered vans.
I have no idea why Ford insists on marketing the Econoline when they continue to make the award winning versatile Transit vans in Europe that are every bit as nice as the Sprinter.
Why do Ford call it an Econoline anyway?, there is nothing economical about an Econoline.
GM, drops the Astro, now we have no small cargo van, they should build a Euro style van for the American market, I hope M/B Dodge bring the Vito here, Im sure it will sell.
It just makes no sense to be driving these big gas hog vans, some of us could use something smaller.
America open your eyes, there is a big world out there full of exciting products.
