Cobra Technology & Lifestyle gears up the Suzuki SX4

We last saw Cobra Technology & Lifestyle when they introduced a set of accessories for the Nissan Qashquai, and the next ride they've decided to focus their attention on is the Suzuki SX4. The SX4 is a nifty-looking little hatchback, and it offers AWD and rugged-ish, allroad-y looks at a reasonable price. Despite the fact that the car's power drives all four of its wheels, we never really looked at it as a vehicle that called for SUV-style accessorization. Other people may have a different opinion though, and for them, Cobra has the gear to make it happen.
They now offer a front grille guard that meets European pedestrian safety standards. As odd as it may look on the hatchback, it's probably easier to rationalize than the available tubular side steps, which are not necessary. We're talking about a car here, not Bigfoot.
Follow the jump for Cobra's press release. High-res shots are in the 2-photo mini-gallery as well. We'll be keeping an eye for the possible appearance of the SX-4 sedan at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show this week.

PRESS RELEASE:
New from Cobra Technology & Lifestyle:
Exclusive Accessories for the Suzuki SX4
Exclusive accessories for the Suzuki SX4 are the latest additions to the extensive product line-up from Cobra Technology & Lifestyle.
To make the front of the Japanese Cross-Over from compact car and SUV even more striking Cobra Technology & Lifestyle offers a high-gloss stainless-steel front guard with a tube diameter of 60 millimeters. This accessory part successfully passed the crash test which is necessary to meet all current EG guidelines for pedestrian protection. The part, which has flexible mounts and is designed to absorb energy, comes with an EG operation certificate, eliminating the need for a technical inspection and for amending the vehicle papers.
Additionally the Suzuki can be refined with a bumper grate made from high-gloss stainless steel. The exactly fitting and easy-to-mount accessory can be alternatively mounted with or without the Cobra Technology & Lifestyle front guard.
The Cobra Technology & Lifestyle 60 millimeter stainless-steel tubular sill guards with integrated step are attractive and practical since they also facilitate entering and exiting the vehicle. They also round out the Off Road look.
The tire/wheel combinations from Cobra Technology & Lifestyle are custom-tailored for all versions of the Suzuki SX4: Altogether there are three different wheel designs in sizes ranging from 7.5Jx16 to 8Jx17. The most exclusive wheel is the multi-piece Cobra Grenada five-spoke wheel in size 8Jx17 with 225/45 R 17 tires.

I think maybe they add the tubular side steps in order to match with the tubular front grill guard rather than serve as a practical part.

Every bit as rational as 22s and low-profile summer tires on a Suburban.

In Europe, the car is positioned as an SUV, as is it's stablemate, the Fiat Sedici.

Suzuki is planning on racing them in the WRC. So is it a truck or a car? This is an identity crisis.

This thing looks like something a Cuban Marielito would drive.
Where are the curb feelers? Where is the tucked crush-velvet upholstery?

Take something 'cute' and turn it into a Sponge Bob-mobile.

Drove one of these this past weekend. You can get one fully loaded for about $19.5k -- and that includes power windows & door locks, auto transmission, iPod connector, XM Radio, and keyless entry & starting, plus some trim accessories. Suzuki itself offers a bunch of adornments as well. The car can be run in 2WD, Auto (switches between 2 and AWD as needed) or full-time 4WD for bad road conditions. It's really a bargain for what you get.
That said, it's certainly not a fast car. The AWD system adds weight which reduces speed & MPG. But if you want a cheap AWD vehicle it's hard to beat.

I think this looks pretty good for such a small vehicle. It's not easy to make them look unique while still maintaining current styling trends.

#13, it's as much a truck as a Subaru Outback or Legacy is. What, you've never seen a subcompact AWD car before? This one's just really, really inexpensive.

I have "07 SX4 Just passed 4k. I love it. Getting 26 mpg in the Smokey Mountains with AT, AC, Cruise. Won't fly up the mountains but gets there like it intends to. I love this little "off-roader" LOL. Luggage rack adapts for my Kayak in summer and skis in winter. Added tomtom gps and adapter for my mp3. This little suv rocks.
