SEAT and Shakira have teamed up to raise funds for the singer's charity, the Fundación Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet Foundation), which raises money for Colombian children in need. SEAT is the primary sponsor of the European tour in support of her Oral Fixation record, and the automaker worked with Shakira to produce a one-off edition of the Leon Cupra hatchback called the Leon Pies Descalzos. Throughout the tour, there will be a concerted effort in several European markets to get fans and supporters to donate to the charity via SMS messaging or with a credit card through a dedicated website. On May 15th, one of the donors will win the Leon Pies Descalzos, which is customized with a purple finish and interior trim, black chrome wheels, two tone seating, and Pies Descalzos badging. At the unveiling of the car in Berlin, SEAT presented Shakira with a check for the retail value of the car to kick off the campaign.

As you'll see in the attached photo gallery, Shakira was probably the most casually-dressed person at the presser, but we'll let it slide. The sheer Abbey Road t-shirt she sported didn't seem to have anyone at the event -- including SEAT prez Erich Schmitt -- complaining...

Press release after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:
SHAKIRA AND SEAT

Shakira unveils the SEAT León Pies Descalzos in Berlin
  • A SEAT León Cupra "designed by Shakira" prize in fundraising campaign
  • SEAT demonstrates social responsibility
  • Massive SEAT advertising campaign to carry charity message
At a press conference in the Max Schmeling Halle in Berlin, SEAT and Shakira presented the prize in the fundraising campaign for Shakira's charity foundation, Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet), a unique SEAT León appropriately called León Pies Descalzos.

"The support for Pies Descalzos is very welcome", said Shakira during the press conference. "The need for education and proper nutrition for the children in my home country Colombia is very big and I trust that SEAT's initiative will aid a lot."

"By supporting Shakira's charity foundation, we show our social responsibility", commented Erich Schmitt, SEAT's president. "We use our massive advertising campaign in all European countries that will be visited by Shakira to incorporate the possibility to donate money to Pies Descalzos."

A unique car

The León Pies Descalzos was developed by SEAT in cooperation with Shakira. In the design process Shakira acted as a consultant on colors and materials. The standard SEAT León Cupra is now transformed into a totally unique car that one lucky person will be able to win in the drawing at the end of the fundraising campaign in May.

The fundraising campaign started yesterday in connection with Shakira's first concert on the European Tour in Hamburg. It will be promoted in all communication channels in the integrated advertising campaign that SEAT has launched benefiting from the Shakira cooperation. It will end on May 15 and the León Pies Descalzos will be handed over to its winner during the Barcelona Motor Show in the beginning of June.

The markets where you can enter in the drawing are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

Win the León Pies Descalzos for 1 Euro

To be able to win the car you have to donate money to Pies Descalzos through SEAT's campaign. Either by sending an SMS to a dedicated number in each country and donate 1 Euro or by entering the dedicated Shakira/SEAT website – www.catch-the-fever.com – where you will be able to donate any sum you would like with a credit card.

The León Pies Descalzos that SEAT is donating to the fundraising campaign represents a value of 27.300 Euros in its equivalent version on the Spanish market. During the press conference in Berlin, Erich Schmitt handed over a cheque with the same amount to Shakira to give the fundraising a flying start.

The most powerful road-going SEAT to date

The base for the car is the recently presented SEAT León Cupra. This car has already secured its place in the history books by being the Spanish brand's most powerful road-going car to date. Developing 240 hp (177 kW) the new Cupra model integrates all of SEAT's expertise in creating cars with an overtly sporty attitude.

The design alterations in the León Pies Descalzos include the exterior color, which is a unique lilac metallic. This color can also be found on several details in the interior such as the dashboard and the back of the seats. Furthermore, the standard 18-inch wheels are painted black. The Pies Descalzos logotype (a bare foot) is integrated in the seats as well as in several places on the exterior.

Fundación Pies Descalzos

The "Fundación Pies Descalzos" (the Bare Feet Foundation) was founded in Colombia. The organization is devoted to finding and providing opportunities for children in Colombia. It originated in Barranquilla, the hometown of Shakira on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, and is now reaching other parts of the country.

The goal is to improve the education, nutrition, and the lives of the thousands of displaced children who are living in perilous conditions in Colombia.

Funny, I saw a mk3 SEAT Ibiza driving down the street in Eugene, OR the other day. Did a double-take and nearly ran off the road! Didn't appear to have plates on it, and I'm not sure how it even got here. You definitely don't see those in the states...

Oh I wish SEAT sold that in the US. We don't have much of a selection of four door hatches like on the continent. I was watching a British Touring Car race on SPEED channel last week at like 4am, and I saw these Leon's, and I love the styling.

fsx seat is not only know in "a couple(literally)" european countries, it sells and it's known in all european union countries.

That car is intensely beautiful. Ok, so I wouldn't drive one that color, or with that color of interior accents, but the overall look is stunning. The mazda 3 hatches/wagonettes look positively stale by comparison.

#3 SEAT is not a direct competititor to Alfa Romeo; Alfa Romeo is marketed as a sports premium brand whereas SEAT is a sort of mildly sporty value brand. I say 'sort of' because the image of SEAT is confused. All the models in their range look the same.

I've always rather liked SEATs... I'd like to drive one, and I think I'd like to see them come to the US!

      Shakira = HAWT!!!

SEAT is positioned against ALFA. The US market would do good to have both of them here.

Price SEAT above VW, below Audi. Not much cross-shopping there, right?

I'm loving this design. Very neat, I'd buy one of these guys if I had spare cash.

      Or maybe any cash.

SEATs exist in Mexico so that one in OR could have been someone driving through the US from Mexico. I owned an Ibiza a while back and it was pretty reliable. A very affordable car. I like the new Leon and the new Ibiza.

Simply gorgeous automobile. Never heard of SEAT so thanks for all the above information on the brand. Who knows, maybe something for the U.S? Probably not.
      Like to own one.

      Most importantly: Praises for Shakira!!
She is laden with talent; writes, sings, produces
her music and videos, has a hauntingly beautiful voice and moves her body like no other.

We listened and danced to her music constantly this past spring and summer.

She should be commended for reaching the level of success she has attained.Because of her dreams, talent, ambition, drive and family support she made herself a worldwide name despite coming from what might be called third world country.
Good for her for charitable work to help the impovershed children of Columbia. More entertainers should follow suit.
Good for SEAT for help in aiding her Bare Foot charity.
Again , that is one beautiful car(my wife would make it look a little better sitting behind the wheel) and Shakira is one beautiful woman inside and out..
