I just did an Escape XLT V6 36 month lease for a customer and @ 10,500 miles the residual was 49%. Is the residual really gonna be 60%?! That would be the lease deal of the year...

Ford knows this is not 1999 right? Back in 1999 these specs were fine.
For 2008, its behind the 8 ball as usual. Knowing we may have this truck till 2013 I belive the residual values ford promises will tank.
Get a CRV or a RAV4 or if you want domestic get the Equinox. This baby is stillborn.

good stuff.
odd how they can do that considering (according the the Detroit Free Press) they are losing 24k every single minute (if on same pace as last year). Good to see Mercury actually getting revamped cars.

Will the CR-V tow 3500 pounds? Does the Equinox V-6 produce 200 hp? Does either have a full hybrid model available today? I didn't think so...

The new Rav4 and CRV mean well and may be reliable, but god knows the Mariner simply IS the nicest compact cute ute out there.

Ya you can get the 252 hp DOHC VVT V-6 6-speed Equinox, not sure about towing....Ford sucks....

For those complaining about the engine, I've heard rumors that the powertrain will be refreshed this time next year. That said, I think the 2008 models are pretty good in their own right.

#2 is right. Get Rav or Equinox. Whats so special about this truck? What part of this is unique? If there ever was an appliance with no soul it would be this Ford Escape.
Give it the 6 speed from Freestyle and Fivehundred. They totally could have. Ford had aisin 6 speed on Fivehundred and Freestyle. Now it has its own 6 speed. But it should still source itfrom Aisin and put it in this truck till its own capacity comes up.
Im very disappointed. look for 0%, 72 months, 3,000 cash back, and begging from 2009 to 2013.

"3. Will the CR-V tow 3500 pounds?"
-I have never seen anyone tow anything with a compact SUV.
"Does either have a full hybrid model available today?"
-Good point, but if you don't plan on getting a hybrid who cares? Plus a Ford Hybrid, sounds like a ticking timebomb.
And who's idea was it to put the ***outgoing*** Montego front end onto the Mariner anyway, b-o-r-i-n-g. The old one looks more modern in the front!
I have a quick question?
which on adapts quicker, the US Government or Ford?
These SUV's would not be *so* bad if you did not have to anticipate 10 more years until another redesign!

"The Ford Escape Hybrid falls from $26,320 to $25,740, while the Mariner Hybrid drops from $28,615 to $26,430."
-Is this Ford's idea of Hybrid advancement?

Drum brakes, 60-0 braking in 154 feet, same powertrain as 1996 Taurus, slower than 4-cyl CRV, terrible fuel economy.
This vehicle is an embarrassment to America and should bring great shame to Ford.

There will be a 252-horsepower Equinox Sport in the 2008 model year, probably a fall intro.
The Escape is hardly a bad vehicle, but it has certainly failed to keep pace.
The 2008 price cut will be reflected in lower incentives, for a possible net gain. More likely about even.
I've got a few more 2007s I want to enter into my database. Then on to 2008.

Please explain this to me. I find only two recalls since introduction in 2004 for the Escape hybrid vs. 7 since 2004 for the Prius. Both similar vehicles. Why is the Escape a timebomb? What then is the Prius an atomic bomb?

13 Prius is HOT, Mariner doesn't sell well. Prius sells more cars than entire Mercury+Volvo+Jaguar+Land Rover brand.
Plus to date (yes there are only few of them) no hybrid SUV has been a hit, 4Runner, Lexus 400, or the Mariner all are weak performers

I like the looks of the 2008 Mercury Mariner looks much better than the 05-07 model and the Mariner looks 100 percent better than the 08 Escape in my opinion the Mercury Mariner is a great value and looks much better than the honda and toyota competition and the Mariner must sell pretty good because i see them on the roads all the time .....
But also i think the Mariner should use Fords 3.5L 265HP 24V V6 Duratec Engine and also the 6 Speed Trans.
