Tokyo Auto Salon: Mugen-massaged Fit Spec.D

Back in 2004, Mugen rolled out their Fit Dynamite concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon, complete with a K20A swapped out of the JDM Integra Type-R.
This year, the tuners at Mugen decided to keep the exterior styling of the Dynamite concept, but fit it with a more manageable and, ultimately more cost-effective, supercharged 1.5-liter inline four. The tangerine five-door produces 143 HP at 5,800 RPM and 137 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 RPM, by way of a Roots-type blower.
Winding Road expects that the complete setup should be available later this year.
Make the jump for a couple more pics.

God help me...I actually think it looks cool.

I don't know how or when hatchbacks were ever made 'uncool', but regardless, that is a hot little hatch.
I'd be curious to see what the curb weight is and if it comes with an LSD. Some HID projectors would also be an excellent options.

Just a quick housecleaning note: it was a K20A from the Type-R. There hasn't been a K20R, just K20A and K20Z (and variations thereof).
Oh, and I seriously want one. The engine/supercharger package seems to be tuned for toque, which is a good thing for the L15A. It actually has nearly as much torque as my Si!

That looks pretty damn good. Now only if Honda would release the 2007 Civic Type R in the States.....
A local shop in the Bay Area tuned up a Fit. Here's the site.

My eyes aren't screaming for help at the sight of the Fit anymore (at least this one)! And yes, I believe it's the K20A engine as everyone has noted. I wonder what the Spec-D gets in terms of MPG.

Holy crap, 143hp.

143hp from a blown 1.5l, in 2007? Give me a break. Give me a call when honda sees 'fit' (ha pun) to meet at least the output of the likes of vw's 1.4l tsi (168bhp). What happened to the days of yore with the F20c, in 2.0L form, putting out a healthy 240 NA hp. Oh well, further proof Honda's distancing itself from it's former track heritage (NSX vs the new concepts, rumors of the abomination that will be the next s2000 and underwhelming power-plants like this).

For a moment, I thought this was coming our way (=US). But then I read the winding road post. And no.
Also, for those who actually know something about cars, available torque is way more important than peak horsepower.

What do you expect from a SOHC 1.5 liter

If that were U.S.-bound, that would have conclusively ended my search for my second "daily driver" car. *sigh*...oh well.
This or an SX4 with engineering bits from the upcoming WRC version would be my top choices.

"Also, for those who actually know something about cars, available torque is way more important than peak horsepower."
Lmao, alright, how's this:
137 ft lbs from a blown 1.5l, in 2007? Give me a break. Give me a call when honda sees 'fit' (ha pun) to meet at least the output of the likes of vw's 1.4l tsi (177lbs ft from 1,750 through to 4,500rpm). What happened to the days of yore with the F20c, in 2.0L form, putting out a healthy 240 hp and 155 ft lbs of torque in NA.
Any way you slice it, this is one seriously weak blown engine, my comments still stand
