Redesigned Scion xB and new xD set to debut in Chicago
Auto show season is in full tilt boogie and the latest news is that Scion intends to debut two new vehicles at the Chicago show next month. The first vehicle will be a redesign of the rolling toaster known as the xB, which may share some design cues with the t2b that debuted in New York in 2005. The other vehicle set to be unveiled in the Windy City is the replacement for the moribund xA: the xD. Although Scion devotees were shown the xD late last year, no photos have surfaced. However, one rumor circulating the web is that it will draw on Toyota's Urban Cruiser concept (pictured) that was shown in Geneva last year.
We'll be on hand for the official unveiling in Chicago, but if you'd like to share in the festivities, Scion is holding a virtual press conference in tandem with the real world event in Second Life. So update your avatar, register here and be online Thursday, February 8th at 9 AM CT.

Very interested in these, so I'm glad I'll get to see them next month at the auto sohw. I loved everything about the xB (yes, even the way it looks), but the crash tests were scary. The new one should be better, so hopefully it'll maintain its versatility.

I am extremely excited about the new Scions. I myself have been looking to purchase a new car, but haven't found one that is affordable, and reliable. Anyone have any suggestions? I am sure these Scions will look great!

They are great cars for the money.

Indeed.
#2, you will not be disappointed if you decide to buy a Scion! They are great cars for the money. I personally have a 07 Scion tC, and if you have any questions, feel free to head over to www.scionlife.com :)

That green one looks like a winner -- and might polish off the similar, but dated, New Beetle in the market.
Maybe we will see a GM or Ford concept car next week that shows that they understand a young-thinking market this well.

Why do companies insist on giving new products names that look like smilies...?
XP, xB (think buckteeth), and now xD
"Hey, I'm getting a scion XD!"
"A what?"
"XD"
"What's so funny...?"
Maybe it's just me.

We have a 2005 Scion tC, purchased in Sept 04. Nearly 75,000 miles( yes, you read correctly, 75K miles).
Automatic, nothing extra added.
17,199 MSRP(at the time). 32-34MPG. 160HP, 0-60 8.2 seconds, 7.7 or so with manual.
reclining rear seats, nice stereo, great handling. The seats were overly firm the first 25,000, but have "softened up" some, and are good now.
It is a work car, thus the mileage.
Tune-Ups are a little more costly than most vehicles, though.
Hope they do not mess up the next generation!
As for someone looking for a "cheap" good car?
Look 2 the new Elantra( 14K starting prices.... large interior, great little car, 138HP).
Or wait for March, and try the new Lancer.
Hope these next generations are good, more HP, and the spouse could stomach looking at one, so I might purchase one(or the Lancer).

Is it just me? or does it look like the roofline in the pic. for this thread was (won't say copied) INSPIRED by the Saturn Prevue concept?

The cube, miniature SUVs from Honda and Toyota don't attract me, but the xB has been an excellent value. You can buy a good xB for nearly half the price of a Honda Element. One area where Scion has fallen short: performance. It was reported when Scion premiered in the States that turbochargers would be offered as factory performance options for the xA and xB, and a supercharger would be made for the tC. Nothing so far.

Two weeks ago the xB and xD were out cruising Venice Blvd just west of the city of Venice. Unfortunately I had no camera on me. Both cars were in heavy disguise but they are so distinctive that figuring out what they were was cake. Both cars were also followed by a pickup which also was under heavy disguise, and at stoplights they would leave huge gaps between them and the cars in front, purposely avoiding pulling alongside any other auto as well. Amusing to watch at least.

I thought there was some speculation that the xD was going to be the Blade:

But maybe I just imagined that.

I have a 2005 Scion TC and my girlfriend has a 2006 Scion xB. THey have been wonderful cars; you will not find that kind of quality and options offered in any other vehicle for the money. We have been exceptionally happy with our purchases. I looked at the Civic, the Optima, the Jetta, the GTI, the Sentra, and the Corolla S--none have which showed me more value and quality for my money. Check one out; take a test drive and see why so many are hooked on the scion-life. If you want more info see www.scion.com or www.scionlife.com--both have really great technical info and aftermarket support. Happy hunting!

I am considering a Scion, and I'm wondering how well it handles in the snow.

Do yourself a favor, test drive a VW RABBIT (starts under $15K) first... then go drive a Scion or Toyota.

Just saw the '08 xB in Chicago. Fatter, uglier, heavier, and less efficient. It was homely before, but now it's become as fugly as Toyota's other stuff. I'm so disappointed. The whole appeal for me was that it was clearly different from all the bloated, impractical crap on the roads these days.

I know all these posts are from half a year ago, but I was just looking up comments about the new xB and found yours. I totally agree with you about the new model! What I loved about the car (2005 xB) was (is!) its hilarious look, super visibility through the huge flat windows, great mpg, incredible spaciousness in, petiteness out. I'm planning to drive mine until it dies, especially now that they've re-designed it. Classic case of fixing what ain't broke, and esp. weird in times of soaring gas prices.

I have a 2005 Scion. I've owned it since September 2006. Snow is no problem. I drove on snowslick roads in Kansas last evening. It handles great. I can't wait to see the new model.
