IROC not rockin' at all in Daytona for '07
For only the seventh time in the series' 30-year history, the International Race of Champions series will not run as a part of SpeedWeek at Daytona this year.
Since the end of the sponsorship money pouring in from primary sponsor, Crown Royal, series president Jay Signore has been working feverishly to get a series sponsor signed in time to run the first race at Daytona for 2007, but that won't happen. They're hoping to have a sponsor signed soon enough to run a full 4-race series this year, beginning in Texas the weekend of April 13-15.
The IROC Series is a unique format that takes 12 drivers from different motorsports disciplines and provides them with equally-prepared cars to race on different tracks around the country for a $1 million dollar payout to the winner.

As soon as the IROC series started playing "politics", when they failed to invite the then Champcar Champion Paul Tracy, I dropped all interest in their series.
Anyway it had become a shadow of its former glory when F1 drivers and others were proud to be invited. Instead it became a largely Nascar/IRL + a few other notables.
Sad.

Pontiac should have never sunk all that money into Rolex. They should have put it into IROC. What is going to sell more cars? NASCAR fans watching their drivers race GTOs or whoever watches Rolex and just buys a BMW anyway?

Now that NASCAR is moving to the "Car of the Future" which will essentially make all cars the same spec., Isn't all of NASCAR essentially an IROC race?

IROC is a farce. Good riddance.
The other Bob, NASCAR has basically been a glorified IROC series for some years now - especially since they went to the 'common body template' ... the 'Car of the Future' just makes it official.
