Ford's Fields says F-Series will stay #1
Bring it on! Ford Motor Co. president of the Americas Mark Fields says that Ford's F-Series pickups will continue to be America's favorite truck, despite Toyota's new Tundra and GM's resurgence with their new Sierra and Silverado. And that wasn't a shot at the competition, rather a pledge to stay one step ahead and keep improving their benchmark pickups. Talking about the new Super Duties, he explained that the refreshed F-250, F-350 and new F-450 are good examples of that commitment. Ford's pickup sales were down almost 12 percent last year, but the whole truck market was down almost 10. And Fields admitted 2007 might not be much better, because of economic concerns, he admitted that new entries in the field could get people thinking trucks again, which can only help all of the contenders.[Source: Automotive News, sub req]

Tyota certainly won't overthrow them anytime soon in the large truck arena, and the new heavy duty trucks do look great.
As for Fields, I can't take a guy serious who talks about everyone sacrificing when he takes Ford's private jet home to florida every friday to the tune of 10s of thousands of dollars per week.

Too bad Ford's "lead" in full size truck sales for the last 30-odd years is based on a technicality.
GM sells more full size trucks than Ford, but they have to report Chevy and GMC sales separately.

If Ford loses the top spot will Mark Fields get a haircut?

ok, maybe he does look a bit like a used car salesman, but I tell you he really seems to be a good cheerleader for the company, and that never hurts as long as you don't say too many stupid things. I don't think he has yet.

Toyota can only produce 340,000 Tundras between the two plants. How can it overrun any of the three trucks?

I guess when you have nothing constructive to say, you have to criticize the guy's looks. Very mature.
I wonder how many of you have accomplished anything near what Fields has.
Why don't you post your pictures and resumés, providing you have real jobs?

Here we go again with Ford stating they are No#1 in trucks, the only reason they out sell GM and Dodge is due to a lower price, fleet sales is what they count on. But you get what you pay for, and as I always have stated, the quality sucks when it comes to Ford. Look at most used car lots, white and silver F-150's all over the place, with low prices, all "previous rentals" or fleets leases that have been turned back in. Ford lives by the rule "there is a sucker born every minute" to sell their junk.

Except the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra (which are essentially the same trucks) outsell the F-150 combined. Ford outsells based on a technicality.

I agree with post #10. When you have nothing to say that is related to the post just dont write it. Who honestly cares if he has a mullet. It's hair for christ sake. This is a CAR blog, and is not intended to be one where the posters talk about hair.
To post #11. The quality sucks on the F-150? Go look at the previous gen Silverado or Sierra, Nissan Titan, or the Dodge Ram, and only now is GM's trucks catching up to Ford in the quality of their trucks. The F-150 according to a Truck Trends comparison was ahead of the 2006 Tundra.

F-150 screams out for a small diesel.
Kick out International PowerStroke and bring in Caterpillar diesels for some panache.

Bruce Lee...you're an idiot. Enough said.
Why is it wrong to sell trucks to companies that need them? They SELL them to fleet customers (not rental) because they NEED large numbers of trucks. Rental companies get less than 10% of all F-Series sold. The reason you see so many on used car lots are because they have sold close to ONE MILLION units/year the past 2 years.
Please stop spewing your ignorance all the time. When you have an educated, fact-based comment to post you can join the adults. Until then....

I agree with #18. GM already outsells Ford trucks. Soon Chevy alone will outsell Ford ( we wont need to see those ridiculous #1 x amount of years running commercials ). The Modular V8 Ford uses is a huge POS. Ford has major problems and Fields is right at the top. Bill Ford already destroyed Ford and Fields is going to finish them off!!!
