Camaro should find homes across the pond

On the eve of GM's debut of the Camaro convertible, What Car? is reporting that both the iconic coupe and drop top variant will find their way to our friends in the UK.
According to the magazine's sources, both Camaros will be offered in right-hand drive and will recieve the LS2 6-liter 400HP V8, producing around 400 BHP. Sales will begin about the same time as us Yanks get our paws on the GM pony car, sometime in 2009, and will carry a price tag of around £30,000.

I'm sure Clarkson is writing a review now, bashing the cars before sitting his ass in the seat.

Isn't 2009 a year earlier than it's supposed to come out in the US?

This would look good cruising the autobahn.

30,000 pounds is nearly $60,000 U.S. dollars! I know that things are generally more expensive in the UK than the US, but that's still pretty outrageous.

A niche product. They might sell a few, but no significant dent in the marketplace.

that is pretty pricey actually, you'd be had done by to get more horses for the money, but there's more to a car than horsepower, for the same price you can get a BMW 335i SE Coupe (cue bavaria bashing), granted it has 100 HP less, but as a drivers car it so much better, and i could probably actually get the bmw in my garage

Another piece of shit we brits can do without, the others being the joke of a jeep you call Hummer H2/H3 and everything Cadillac and Lexus. We like cars that are actual value for money and for that amount I wouldn't even pay for the Corvette let alone this shit. Dodge challenger on the other hand could sell well providing its a Chrysler, maybe the Chrysler Cuda. in the end I would rather put my money on a 330i Coupe or any not from GM or Ford (North America).

AM I the only one who noticed this is the EXACT SAME color of the Challenger Concept??? Orange with black stripes. And the Black stripes are identical in design too, with thick black, and then a very thin black border around the main one.
They also point forward towards the middle of the car, just like the Challengers. Am I missing something? Is this just a photoshopped Camaro with the Challengers colors????

jit, when you say "and all things Caddillac and Lexus" i think you mean to say Lincoln. Lexus is neither american, and nor is particularly shitty, specially from your apparently one sided automotive mindset (value for money), where its cheaper than most things german you can buy. i wont bother revealing the apparent contradiction in your arguement where you state that VFM is the way to go, and then conclude that youd put your money on a pricey coupe with a high rate of depreciation.
that said, the Chevy Camaro is a hideously ugly car, and i dont blame you for petitioning to ban it from the UK. Heres Chevy trying to do a 70's retake, and theve ended up with a futuristic vehicle more in line with an outrageous sci-fi movie prop.

Remember the British price includes high taxes.
Nice that the UK is getting the publicity on this, but I imagine the reasons for making the RHD Camaro are due to their wanting to sell some in Japan (they are dreaming!!) and Australia (will sell like crazy, except for the price).
Re SNOTTY comments from the UK: hey, go buy a vehicle made by a major UK producer instead. (Oh, sorry, I forgot you were the first country to lose its Auto industry to imcompetent management and greedy labor. We are trying hard not to follow,

#6, tell us what cars you brits have to brag about that have'nt been bought out or taken over by other countries manufacturers only to make them better. they were aquired by others on the cheap due to the record of poor quality and unreliability that plagued them. (i've had several mgb's, td's, tr7, and tr8's, loved the driving experience but spent most of my time in the shop.) truth be known, you could'nt handle a camaro, and i hope gm has enough sales savvy not to send them over the pond. they'll sell every one they can build here. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, PUT HER IN A CADILLAC"

I am looking forward to the new Camaro as well as the Challenger. I personally would not own a Japaneese car. I am old school. I remember Pearl Harbor.I laugh everytime I see someone in a Lexus all I see is an over priced Toyota. I live in America and support Americans. If you want a nice foriegn car try the Mercedes CL-55

I love it when Brits talk about things automotive. Let's see...how many cars are made in England today? Oh that's right...foreign companies acquired (and fixed) most of your manufacturers.
How many engines are made in England today? Oh that's right...You let the Huns make them for you today, largely because it's clear the English couldn't make an engine worth a damn. Or a transmission. Or virtually anything else that was required to be useful.
The English automotive "industry" is largely limited to sniping at countries that actually produce cars and then complaining about how much better the English could have built them.

#10,#11,#13 - We might not actually own the brands anymore but the products that we make are some of the best worldwide. Land Rover for example is better not just then any but all your SUV's put together. There is nothing you offer then even half compare's to any of their cars. Any Jag is better then any equvilant American (MINUS THE GERMAN CHRYSLER GROUP).Same goes for Aston Martin, Rolls Royce and Bentley. All other companies do when they buy our companies is put money into these companies and take the profits. They are still designed and produced in England
I admit Ford europe makes good cars but they are design and manufactured by europe which includes England and thats what you american are crying to have in America. Just shows how shit the American engineering really is.
Either way this piece of garbage you may like call the Chevrolet Camaro won't sell as Chevrolet products find it hard to compete with budget brand let alone the Volkswagen and co's, so have never and hopefully never get big in britain.
#9 - In England Lexus is seen as badge engineered Toyota and people rather just buy a toyota instead.

"Just shows how shit the American engineering really is."
Bwhahahaha! Yeah, because we have so many fine examples of stellar English technology.
I'll wait here while you list them. LOL!
Now the Germans..they can engineer! But the English? I mean...your little island has a few smart people on it, but England hardly resonates as the bedrock of world engineering prowess. So for an Englishman to refer to American engineering ability as "shit" is...well, it's just funny considering how little your little island has contributed to the body of engineering over the past 100 years.

How little lol, America come out of England lol. Haven't got enough time to list all the tech as I'l be here forever. Just point you to the direction of one of the best cars on the planet - THE MCLAREN F1.
LET ALONE TEN YEARS AGO YOU HAVE NOTHING THAT COMPETE WITH IT RIGHT NOW.

#14, land rover, owned by ford is still rated dead last by j.d. powers just as it did before ford took over. still have a lot of work to do. jag, also owned by ford, is now world class only because ford eliminated all sw electronics and brought the age of computers to the brand and made several other improvements. before ford took over, your own princess di didn't want one. astin martin, also owned by ford, had it's quality ratings surge upward since ford took over. as far as the other two, quality is tenfold better than when you had them, and the sales numbers prove it. if your concerned the camaro might come with a tooth brush and toothpaste, rest assured, they won't. as in a camaro, you would'nt know how to handle it. oh yea, gotta love your taxi's. unchanged from the thirties, now that's real progress.

14 LR has the worst quality of any car in USA. And i am not just saying it, it WAS rated in many surveys to have the poorest quality. They constantly need to be fixed.
