AutoNet Mobile rocking wi-fi in your car
For those of you confined to a movable cubicle, having a wireless internet connection within your mobile office would be a Godsend. Autonet has recognized this need and developed, what the company maintains is, the first in-car ISP, allowing any wireless devices within your vehicle to be hooked up the World Wide Web. The unit will set you back $399 and a monthly fee of $50 will hook you up with Verizon's EV-DO network. Initially, the product will be launched in the spring of 2007 in AVIS rental vehicles for $10.95 per day and, according to the company, will function on 95-percent of roadways within the U.S.

Yes. this is just what I need. I really need some a-hole rear-ending me while checking his email or downloading dirty movies and talking on his cell phone and changing the radio station via his i-drive.
Also, Verizon's EV-DO cannot come even close to 95% of the roads, if you get outside of any major metro area, you lose EV signal.

Time to sell my XM and Sirius stock... Why pay them if I can listed to a free Digitally Imported radio in my car?

Here's why:
Sat. Radio: $30+ $13/month. Works nationwide.
Car Internet: At least $500 ($399 for the device, but you'll still need a computer to get online and get music) + $50/month. Far from "free". "Functions on 95% of roads" does not mean a steady enough connection for streaming audio. Not easily integrated into current car stereo. Have fun taking your eyes off the road to change stations.
And how is this new? My wife has had a Cellular internet card for a while now, she uses it in her laptop on long trips. Additionally, will it be disabled unless the car is in "park"? They do the same thing with many navigation systems, why should this be any different?
