It's no big surprise that Alfa Romeo has given the unbelievably gorgeous Competizione 8C its own site. But it's a rather well-done, Flash-filled site with a few never-before-seen photos of the Italian sports car inside and out, official performance facts and one amazing video of the Competizione in action, powersliding around curves and glistening in Italian sunshine.
Visitors to the site can even see how the 8C's curves will look in a color other than red. Choose from Alfa Red, 8C Red, yellow and black. Interior leather colors include black, red, natural leather and titanium. The Alfa site confirms what we already knew about the car's potential performance: 4.7 liter V8, 450 bhp at 7000 rpm with a 6-speed lever-shifted transmission.
Thanks, Antonio, for the great tip!

Do not leave the site without viewing (though we recommend going ahead and downloading the 36mb file) the two-minute video. While the 8C is stunningly sexy sitting still, in motion the car is almost pornographic. Please, be careful with this video. Depending on how prudish your co-workers are, it may not be safe for office viewing.
Car and Driver says Maserati will build only 500 of these beauties for 2009, with a scant 99 coming stateside. If you want one, quickly place your order directly with Alfa's Italian headquarters and get your $200,000 check written, signed and ready to go. There's no way these cars will last long.
And if you need a booster fix of super Competizione photos, we had a bunch back in November.

This car is just gorgeous. There are no other words for it.

If I had $200k that I didn't know what to do with, I'd know now. A beautiful car that'll never be worth less than $200K, until some yahoo goes and wraps it around a telephone pole.
Seriously, Alfa makes some beautiful cars. I can't wait for them to get back in the states, I hope it goes well for them.

Drop dead gorgeous.
Thank the god of sports cars for the resurgence of the most classic format, and this fantastic example.
Front engine, rear drive, modest sized and advanced technology (for the vintage) V8 with good specific output, manual transmission, fully independent suspension, two seats, compact and low dimensions, and curves like a smokin' hot woman.
Not to take anything from inherently great mid-engined cars like the F430, or rear engined 911s, but there is something traditional about front engine with rear drive.
Between this and the Aston Martin Vantage; halleluia for the resurgence of true and gorgeous sports cars.
Viva la sports car!

replying to comment #5: The shield in front of this car is the traditional front grille of EVERY alfa romeo ever built.
that shield recall cars built also in the sixties by alfa romeo.
take a look at this one, for example:
www.pidocchio.net/turboland/WRCSardinia2005/shakedown/089%20Alfa%20Romeo%20Giulietta.jpg
The latest subarus' front girlle have been designed by an european designer who said... "these japanese are paying me a lot of money just because I am european: I need an idea... Hey! let's copy the alfa romeo traditional sign and let's use it upside-down. noone will notice it..."
Mazda did the same when they designed the Maxta Xedos 6 and the mazda 6, which are heavilly inspired by the Alfa Romeo 156.
Alfas aren't sold in usa, but Mazdas and Subarus are.
Now every time there is a post about alfa romeos, there is an american who says "hey they copied Subaru! hey they copied Mazda!". They did NOT: it is the opposite.
jean @ Dec 20th 2006 4:10PM
Carlo, your right about the people who have no knowlegde about Alfa's, but the reason Subaru's are looking alot like them is because a designer from Alfa actually is the head designer for Subaru now. Hence the similarities....

I agree. Subaru copied Alfa Romeo. And now, both of them end up with ugly front grilles.

Zapatinas *was* the head designer. Subaru had the good sense to abandon the propeller grille design. If the grille design is not good enough for Subaru, what is Alfa Romeo thinking?

Lovely car, but if they're going to call it the Competizione I hope they race it, especially with a name like 8C. Would look good in GT2 (a little small for GT1).
RobBob @ Dec 20th 2006 5:51PM
I've always loved pretty Alfa's, and this one is so seductive. I wish I saw could see more Alfa's in the states, but I guess that's why I love them so much.
Jonathan Hicks @ Dec 20th 2006 7:41PM
Why doesn't the 8C come in orange, silver, bright blue, dark blue, dark gray, light-medium gray, or white?
