2007 Chevy Silverado named MT Truck of the Year
The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado has captured the coveted calipers for being voted the Motor Trend Truck of the Year winner for 2007. This year's field of contenders included the Chevrolet Avalanche, the Chevrolet Silverado, the Cadillac Escalade EXT, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac and the GMC Sierra.
The one thing that really sums up emotions about the new Silverado is that GM has really done a good job of modernizing an American icon. The truck doesn't stray far from its roots, but combines a strong new look with excellent interior amenities, powertrains, and configuration flexibility.
There are three things that are considered when judging the trucks in this competition; Significance, Superiority and Value. These are the three categories that have come to the forefront as most important to consumers over the 48-year history of the Truck of the Year competition. Is the Silverado deserving over the crowd of other contenders? Motor Trend thinks so, but do you?

I've got two words for the designers of the new Full Size Chevy Truck ....."YOUR FIRED" When are you guys in Detroit finally going to get rid of the huge wheel well space that has haunted the looks of the Chevy/GMC trucks. The last time I looked the wheel is round.....DUH!! not squarish' . Who wants to see the unsightly wheel opening? Shouldn't it match the shape of the wheel? The Sides of the truck have no feature lines at all, just curved sheet metal with a body side molding stuck on some models. I work at GM and wouldn't drive the new Chevy Truck even with our so called "discount"...lol. Put some style back in the trucks for god sakes. Just like GM to drag their feet, when will we see the camaro? been talking and teasing the public long enough. Chrysler is blowing away GM when it comes to styling. I finish with the famous line from Mr. Trump...."To the GM Design Team, YOUR FIRED!......lol

This is harldy anything to brag about.
Of the 5 eligible trucks, 4 are based on the GMT 900 SUV's!
Only 1 non-GM in the whole lot!
Big Deal!

Hmm that's some pretty tough competition. One lame offering from Ford and the rest are your own. Of course they will pick the highest-volume one. Too bad the new Tundra wasn't eligible to compete, then it would have been a real competition.

The Silverado is quite a nice truck. Domestics still lead when it comes to trucks and even Toyota may find it difficult to gain much marketshare in this segment. That said all these magazine awards are mostly meaningless and MT is one of the least credible mags out there.

Whatever the merits of the new GM trucks, does anyone really think than ANY award given by a car mag, especially MT, is based on merit instead of the size of advertising budgets?
Why else do you think they exclude any vehicle that is not a new product? Because the big ad push comes in the first year, that's why. They couldn't max out the ad revenue if they had to award it to a Toyota 3 years in a row, or a Honda 5 in a row, or even the Silverado 4 years in a row.
Ever wonder why MT can give you a sub for $10 a year, or even a free 2nd sub for your friends? (the printing and postage costs more than that) I've worked at a magazine. The ads run the business. They would not even include articles, columns, and reviews if the ad people could find a way to get you to look at it without them.

Congrats and all but the field was all GM and a Sport Trac? That's weak. I guess Toyota didn't make the cut-off and nothing new from Nissan or Dodge.

Oh, boy! GM half-bakes a new version with the dullest exterior of any product sold on the market and beats itself to win an award!
More evidence that the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award is worthless.

How many of you guys graduated from clowns school? What are you bitching about? Chevy is apparently the best truck for now whatever whatever you put on that list.

If they only throw one Ford in there, why did they use a Sport Trac and not an F-150? I've never been in either, but the F-series seems like a closer match.

PRECISELY.
You sure are no fool.
Others: WISE UP.
PS as long as MT accepts ADS by the losers in Detroit and their overseas competition, they will NEVER be able to make an unbiased judgement.

Well, THAT award is worth ... what exactly?
I have a hard time figuring out why MT's OTY awards are still worth marketing gold: they only judge new cars and trucks against other new cars and trucks. They don't take into account benchmarks like Car and Driver's 10Best list does.
So GM redesigns their truck, pump out four versions, and time it with no new trucks from its competitors - voila! Instant "of the Year" award.
Congratulations on nothing GM.

#2 (Chris): "Congratulations, GM. Leave the toys to the traitors."
The real traitors are the parasites who leach company resources from the domestic auto manufacturers, thereby crippling their competitiveness in a global market. Parasites such as executives who fly on obscenely expensive private trips on the corporate jet. And UAW workers who "cost the equivalent of $67 an hour".

are you domestic haters that deep in the sand? chevy and ford trucks have been working in fields and building your houses for decades and decades. the import pretenders still haven't gotten it right, and the domestics keep getting better.
i'm sure the import lovers were dancing a jig last year when the mini-van based ridgeline was voted as truck of the year, but i guess the award wasn't worthless LAST year.
