Monaco based car-maker Venturi showed off a peculiar little machine at last September's Paris Auto Show called the Eclectic. The Eclectic is a three seater that resembles a twenty-first century rendition of a nineteenth century carriage. The roof is covered by solar cells and there is also a mast with a wind turbine to help charge the batteries. Venturi is apparently doing a pilot run of 20 samples right now, and plans to start limited series production in June 2007. The first batch of 200 examples will cost €24,000 each. A further larger production run will be available starting in 2009, with each costing €15,000. The Eclectic is an interesting vehicle although side impact protection seems to have been neglected.

As not to be totally negative concerning these types of vehicles will simply state that in the city for gramps or granny to make a quick run to the corner market such may have it's place. How ever fact is they are extravigantly over priced,$15,000-$30,000 when in fact a $4000-$15,000 dollar bill is what your looking at once popular yet would never sell for such. There's not enough to them to claim thier worth so much. Here is the one fact that plants these cars deep underground where I'm concerned. Save gas,Yes, expensive over priced parts on vehicles that suffer breakdowns and mechanichly being problematic and a simple as such way it works was dreamed of by kids long ago (Wind/Turbine/Generator and or Inverter/Generator,Electric Turbine etc..! Want examples of what you'll spend? Someone mentions a VW,Toyota, even Cheap Fords, where do you spend the bucks on such vehicles? The gas you save but the over priced parts prices will eat up what would be spent on fuel a dozen times over! Example: Vehicles in 60's to 70's:altenator $25-$60,same parts today:$39-$70. Newer vehicles from 95-06 such as Toyota,Mazda, darn near all vehicles so why just mention these:$150-$350. That is where your money will go...OVER PRICED PARTS for an Etravegantly Over Priced Clunker. PS. Whatch out for the Electrical Fires and Shorts.Golf carts do better!

FUNNY HOW THE "NEW CAR" LOOKS LIKE AN OLD CHUCK WAGON FROM THE WESTERN DAYS, WOULDN'T YOU SAY???!!! MY DAD ALWAYS SAYS...."THE MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME...". SEEMS LIKE PROGRESS ALWAYS BEGIN WHERE SOMETHING ENDS, BUT, IT ALWAYS BEGINS WHERE SOMETHING THAT ENDED HAD BEGUN.....YOU KNOW.....THE FRACTAL UNIVERSE....BENT SPACETIME....TRAVERSE AND LONGITUDINAL WAVES.....JUST ONE BIG CIRCLE WOULD YOU SAY....A MIRROR....ONE AND THE SAME....JUST IN DIFFERENT TIMEFRAMES.

It is a start. Range seems to be the greatest problem this vehicle has. A range of 100 miles would make sure that a person could get to a from work without any problem

I THOUGHT 10 YEARS AGO THAT A VEHICLE COULD RUN WITH BATTERY POWER. AS IT MOVED ALONG ,THE AIR PASSING BY COULD BE COUGHT BY A TURBINE FAN AND AS IT SPUN, IT WOULD RUN A GENERATOR IN WHICH WOULD CHARGE THE BATTERY OR POWER PACK.

you guys are kind of funny. You can already get a real car that gets 50 mpg; i've owned one. VW Jetta TDI averaged 45mpg and over 50 on the highway. My current Passat TDI gets 38/45. It isn't beyond realistic that this fossil fuel burner will get over 60-70 teamed with a hybrid. It drives beautifully and has side panels. Yeah, wind and sun are romantic; i've tried to have a cabin with solar and wind and batteries and it is a romantic joke so far.

If you can afford it, buy it! Think waiting will make it a better investment when the bugs are worked out? Think again! We're at the infancy of the industrial ages' attempts at fixing it's own mess.. these icons of the first attempts will be priceless collectors items by the time you have grandkids..and pray we get it right, so those grandkids can laugh at us!
