Gumball 3000 Impreza STi now in civilian hands

Dave Senders of Boulder, CO is one lucky dude. Through a joint promotion run by Hot Import Nights and DC Shoes, Dave has been crowned the winner of the blue-and-orange DC Shoes Subaru Impreza WRX STi that was driven in the Gumball 3000 rally by pro skater Rob Dyrdek.
The custom Impreza is valued at $65,000 and is outfitted with (among other things) a JDM Impreza STi Spec C body kit and the camo wrap and graphics from the Gumball. Inside, a full suite of A/V upgrades is ready to entertain driver and passengers alike, while a 425-horsepower boxer that 's good for 180 miles per hour resides underhood. The full list of mods can be found after the jump, but the highlights of the engine work are the Crawford Performance S2 motor and CP32 turbo kit.
In addition to the car, Dave gets VIP status for every Hot Import Nights event. As if rolling up to one in a 425-horse Impreza wouldn't have gotten him the swank treatment already. Color us blue (and orange) with envy.

Now he can be the laughing stock of his town. What an ugly car. He'll feel at home at Hot Ricer Nights!

SRT-8 10:58AM (12/14/2006)
he might have 425 horses under the hood, but with a dude like him with no experience he might end up getting 425 tickets a year or more...

SRT-8, I don't think the press release specified this guy's driving experiance.
and, sr20de, remind me not to move to your town if winning a free 400+ hp racecar qualifies you as a laughing stock.

So does the car have two sets of "Interior Additions" ?
I drive a stock (for now) STi. I'm with the AB guys, jealous as ever. That thing must rip, find some twisties and go!!

Nothing a paint job and powdercoat of the rims wouldn't fix at pretty low cost for a sweet ride.
And, I fail to see how driving experience equates to less tickets. If you speed by police trap, you get ticket. Now, I do see where it could help keep the car on the road and not smashing into embankments, other cars, pedestrians, etc.
Add to the paint job a performance/rally driving school entry fee, to maximize enjoyment and safety.

I would assume that "Camouflage Wrap graphics" indicates that it is not actually a paint job, but a vinyl sticker job. He's probably already peeled it off by now. I know I would!

HEY JH* A CAR WITH THAT KIND OF HORSE AND LOW WEIGHT AND AWD IF YOU ARE NOT A RACE CAR DRIVER BUT INSTEAD JUST A DUDE WHO WINS IT I WOULD QUALIFY THEM AS "NOT FIT TO DRIVE IT" BUT AT THE END OF THE STORY THAT IS JUST MY SIDE OF THE STORY...

You guys are all foolish who criticize him. He's a mutual friend of mine and we'll all racers, drivers and enthusiasts. Anyone would enjoy that car, new paint or not for the minimal fee of taxes and licensing and a simple ballot box insertion. Quite being jealous, judgmental and self centered and give the guy some congratulations. If not, get off your ass, get a real job and buy your own.

SRT-8 - So what you are saying is that rather than speeding tickets, as you first asserted, this guy will end up in the trees sooner rather than later. Am I right?
I'm jealous of the car, not jealous of the taxes, insurance and other costs he'll have to cover. My Impreza has 72hp at the wheels and is good for about 90mph (downhill with a tailwind!), so ugly or no, I'm jealous! Peeling off that much vynil would be a royal PIA!

Ugly at any speed
Cheapskate Subaru should be given the Honorary Ford Edsel (or Pontiac Aztec for you GM lovers) award.
How much would it have cost them to pay a few bucks per car extra to have them designed BEAUTIFULLY for a change by some big-ass italian design studio?
Very little.
But maybe they spend EXTRA $ to make these POS look far uglier than they are!

haha #1 - Your sign on is sr20de and you call him a ricer. I think you are just jealous because your Nissan doesn't even have an sr20det. You only have an sr20de - haha!

Professor Porsche - Subaru appeals to a small niche market ( especially the Impreza ). Im sure they would like to sell millions of cars, one to every mother father and child out there. I for one, am glad that they are sticking to what their roots are as much as possible. Besides they have the Legacy and other vehicles to sell. The Impreza is not an ugly car - at first glance it might be, but it grows on you pretty easily.

some of you guys are arguing over whether the guy who won the car has 'driving experience'??? you do realize that this car was driven in the Gumball by Rob Dyrdek (a skateboarder) with Big Black (his x-large body guard), you know, of "Rob and Big" fame? we're not talking Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena here...Rob and Big drove it. i think this kid will have no problem driving this car.

ScottyC 3:40PM (12/14/2006)
I wanna know how Big was able to fit into that car.
415lb man + STi = cramped interior

$65k value? He'll be paying almost the price of a brand new unmolested STi in taxes.

mmm... I'd take the free car and you can laugh at me. I'd still have a free car and you have nothing.
On the flip side, that'll kick your into a higher tax bracket, and if you plan to drive it, those don't come cheap with ownership (insurance, gas, tires ...)

#3: You wouldn't want to live in my town, it's full of rednecks that laugh at any import.
#8: I have a car with an SR20DET in it. Ha. Ha. Ha.
I actually think it would be great to win a car. Doesn't matter what car because it can always be sold or parted out.
