eBay Find of the Day: Parnelli Jones Mustangs

Our pick for Best of Show at the 2006 New York Auto Show would have to be the Saleen S302 Parnelli Jones Mustang. Despite the debut of the Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT-H by Ford, the Parnelli Jones Mustang managed to not only best its corporate-backed cousins, but also emerge as the vehicle we coveted most at the show. While Saleen's website states that a batch of 500 limited edition cars would be available this fall for purchase, we haven't heard from anybody who has parked one in their garage. Recently, however, a crop of Parnelli Jones Mustangs have popped up on eBay and include #40, #56, #67 and another car whose serial number is not mentioned. Each is being auctioned by a different dealer, but three of the four auctions feature a no-gouge buy-it-now price of $60,565, which is the car's actual MSRP. Though Ford has introduced a number of Mustang iterations itself, none seem to stir the soul like the Parnelli with its 400-hp V8, Grabber Orange paint, and booming exhaust. And where else are we gonna find a 2007 MY car with louvers on the back hatch like that?
Thanks for the tip, Brad!

Gotta say I don't like the louvres or the wheels. Or the hood pins for that matter. Prefer the Shelbys.

A special edition mustang? It's about time!
$60k? Spend another $5k-$10k and get in a Z06.

I checked out one this summer at the dealer and I can tell you this is an awesome Mustang. It is really more like a race car then a typical upgraded mustang. And if you read the articles it even beat the GT500 on the track. Saleen actually pulls the engine on this baby and trashes most of the std GT engine. Maybe the best Mustang ever many are saying. Only 500 made! PJ worked with Saleen on the project. Both are retired and both signed the car. Many people saying the biggest collector cars in 20 years will be the ford GT ($200K) and the saleen PJ mustang. The other thing most americans forget is it is a global economy moving forward. You may be bidding against a guy in China or India guy (they just announced in India a guy with a net worth more then gates and its only 07) vs. the ohio guy.

cool, but i'd rather put that 60k towards a nice '69 parnelli jones fastback.

Good point on the z06. Hell, drop $7k and get a Lotus exige.

Clearly the high price is driven by exclusivity. Only 500 of these are being built and one of those goes to Parnelli himself.

no hatch, BTW, on the original, or the remake. just a trunk.
I like this car... but 60k? wow. that is a lot of money for that car. (or any mustang, saleen, shelby, etc...)
I think if I were in that market, I would buy a Mustang GT, and go nuts in the FRPP catalog, and get the 5.0 Cammer crate motor...
and wait for these bumpers, exhaust, license plate trunk panel, and wheels to come out as aftermarket parts.
They are all attractive... but that is a lot of cash.
The slit through the headlights is begging for another e-bay purchase... those over-under blacked out headlights that are being peddled all over the mustang listings on ebay motors... :D lol.

I have to say I love the comments about the Parnelli Jones Mustang being too expensive.
it was the same thing that was said about the Shelby Mustang back in the 60s.
and we all know where those values are today.

No matter how much you spend on a Mustang, the inside will still look and feel as cheap as the base $20k V6 model.

Fred (#8):
It's the same interior that won Ward's INTERIOR OF THE YEAR in 2005.

I like this Saleen special a lot (and the interior is a step up), but agree about the price being way too high. $40K maybe.
