I know it's completely hyperbolic to call something the "best ever," but right now, that's how I feel after watching the television commercial above. It's for the E39 BMW M5, and it does more to communicate the whole point of the car -- in a delightfully clever fashion -- than anything I've seen in a long time. Man, the last M5 was the cat's pajamas, wasn't it?

Go now. Click and bask in the unrelenting awesomeness.

"The pace car for an entire company." Gives me chills.

Ford, turn around and look at your GT ads. THAT is what good advertising is made of!

#10 Erm,.... right. Actualy, to set it up for 500 hp all you need to do is press one tiny button ("Sport"). You need special classes to set it for normal traffic though. The idea is good: to adjust the ride settings to exactly what you want/expect from the car so you're as happy as possible with it. But happiness doesn't come cheap. Just think of all the time invested in learning for that PHD.

      Good one!

With a real M engine? The new V-10 for its 100 more horses, has very similar torque to the old engine - which is to say - not as a big an improvement over the old M as advertised.

They should put a disclaimer at the end: Note: M5 does not actually keep up with Thrust SSC [or whatever it is] at full clip, so don't go challenging one to a drag race. :P

That was only at 155 mph or so. Not 752.

The BMW ad is awesome. So is the Clio ad.

The second Ford GT ad gives you chills, but the first (the superbowl one) is bad in the fact it actually doesn't mention what the car is. Believe or not, its a big nono to assume such knowledge! And being an ad during the superbowl, it only works as a very expensive teaser.

But still an awesome ad. Typical BMW style. The comment before was obviously tounge-in-cheek.

To be fair RPM it is predictable when the title of the post is "VIDEO: Best Commercial Ever? The E39 BMW M5", but it's sure to put a smile on anyone's face who's watching it on t.v. for the first time.

I'll submit this as contender for best commercial:

      and the follow up
