UPDATE: Audi A1 production confirmed
Brethren from germancarblog.com have confirmed that the Audi A1 is moving into production. This smallest Audi will no doubt come equipped with a fabulous interior, the Twincharger engine range, and possibly diesel motivation as well. All 10,000 of the 2009 inagural run will be produced in Brussels, Belgium. Now that Audi and the Belgian unions have figured things out, we will bide our time waiting to get our hands on the Lilliputian from Ingolstadt.[Source: germancarblog.com]

I have a feeling we will never see this model in the United States.

Hmmmm... you sure you haven't been tricked by WindingRoad again? The headlights on that little Audi look suspiciously like a Chrysler Sebring's (and that ain't good).

And here's the original story, because the author forgot to put it.

Actually, the headlights give the A1 a very aggressive appearance. The front end has no features of a Chysler Sebring. If those headlights are indeed the same as the Sebring then Audi has made an exceptionally good choice.
The two vehicles will never be compared with each other . They are certainly not the same catagory or class of cars.
I'm sure there are other vehicles sharing identical visible parts but it matters none as long as the parts are of quality and the vehicles don't mimic each other.

Don't trust Google when it comes to translations:
Original Text from Auto-Motor-Sport.de:
"[…] Von 2009 an könnte das neue Auto mit einer jährlichen Stückzahl von mehr als 100.000 in Brüssel gebaut werden, […]"
The important word ist "könnte" meaning could.
[…] From 2009 on the new car COULD be built with more than 100,000 units anually in Brussels […]
And it's quite similar to what you get from Google, so someone screwed up the translation.
I don't see that as an confirmation, as they actually are figuring it out with the unions right now. But I'm pretty sure they will find an agreement an will build it there. It's just not confirmed yet.

Why do the small cars from Audi and BMW just look like big cars, but shortened? I've been hoping for a 2002 throwback from bmw for going on a decade now, and the 1 series, while no doubt a mechanically sound machine, just looks like a chopped 3 series.

QUICK! Someone call BMW! Audi is stealing the headlights that THEY stole from Japan!
