I don't understand this guy... he goes from making VWs, to making a non-defined-unshapen-Solstice, then shows up at Mazda where his vehicles are so progressive that they won't do anything to define the brand. There are no design cues here that are practical or even revolutionary. The snakey lines along the doors are just novel, not stately design(granted, something that would be interesting in production, but even Mazda isn't niche enough to pull that off).
Whenever Franz has tried to do something that actually pushed the envelope, it was so out there that it was pretty much useless. Did Chevy get anything out of that SS concept? No. Is the Solstice setting a design trend for Pontiac? No. All he did was pull the pontiac grille onto a bulbous shape and he got a huge promotion out of it. Now, he's just taking the teenage sketchpad stuff and making people oogle it. The guys behind the RX8, Mazda6/Atenza, and Mazda3/Alexa all did something novel and interesting... but Franz is just making a joke out of the process.
