This is a beautiful concept. The details are amazing and UNIQUE. Look at the front and rear lights. WOW. The detil on the side also works. This doesn't rely on retro cues it is totally modern. Also very interesting is the features/design that it shares with other mazda concepts. When you see more than one concept displaying a design element it can't be too far from appearing on a production car. I am looking forward to the next thing from Mazda. (Wow it was only 5 years ago and you wouldn't get me into a mazda if you paid me.)

Jay

Comments on LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight

seems like it "flowed" out of his ass

zetha

Comments on LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight

I see Mazda had nothing to offer this year!

Daddy's boy

Comments on LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight

I like the side, the back and the interior. There are no design cues here that are practical or even revolutionary. The snakey lines along the doors are just novel, not stately design(granted, something that would be interesting in production, but even Mazda isn't niche enough to pull that off).

Whenever Franz has tried to do something that actually pushed the envelope, it was so out there that it was pretty much useless. Did Chevy get anything out of that SS concept? No. Is the Solstice setting a design trend for Pontiac? No. All he did was pull the pontiac grille onto a bulbous shape and he got a huge promotion out of it. Now, he's just taking the teenage sketchpad stuff and making people oogle it. The guys behind the RX8, Mazda6/Atenza, and Mazda3/Alexa all did something novel and interesting... but Franz is just making a joke out of the process.

John

Comments on LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight

Looks like a life-sized hot wheels car.

JON C

Comments on LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight

I cant believe the negative reaction to this design. Is everyone so conservative?

#11 "looks like a life-sized hot wheels car" ?? isn't a hotwheels car a scaled down model of actual models? So that would make this a life size car representing a car.

#2 The C16??? I just had a lok and it looks cheap and ill-proportioned. It has taken some aspects of the Ferarri 599 (butress c-pillar for example) but manages to stuff up the proportions. Looks like it could be 20 years old otherwise. And the mustang concept is an ITALIAN design house's impression of what the mustang could look like...if not so conservative.

What are you talking about people. The proportions on this are great. It incorporates a lot of mazda cues (the single piece front grill is seen on the rx8 and will appear more strongly on future models - Mazda has said this. The rear end treatment is also featured - although in a softer way. The surfacing is also very mazda - look up surfacing in your design text books to understand what I mean. Finally the front wheel arches is a feature of the Miata/MX5 and RX8 and will appear more on future models).

Have you seen a 599? It may not have retro design and fit your idea of beautiful but it is very modern. It exudes confidence, and power with its stance and airflow management. It looks special. It is an event. Exacly as a ferarri should.

I applaud this design by Mazda because it shows a linkage to previous concepts yet introduces new ideas such as those lights and side ripples.

I am starting to believe that Americans are blind to good car design. Otherwise we wouldn't have so many aweful cars coming from there.

Jay

Comments on LA Auto Show: Mazda Nagare Concept wedges into the spotlight

The streamline paint is mesmerizing.
