SPY SHOTS: Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan revealed
Mercedes-Benz is preparing the new C-Class for its debut at Geneva, and pre-production has already begun at the Bremen factory. This loosely rendered spy shot had little in the way of body camouflage to remove in order to give a proper glimpse at what the baby Benz will look like when it hits the show-floor and the showrooms in 2007.
The new C-Class will spawn a number of body-styles, starting with the sedan and wagon, to be joined by a new coupe and convertible. While four-cylinder engines will be on offer overseas, the American market will get a range of V6 powerplants, plus a new AMG version.

I like the strong, muscular front end that newer Merc's have.

One of the things I liked was seeing the 3-pointed star looking down the hood from the driver's seat... Now there'll be nothing to remind me why I didn't opt for the far superior 3-series...

A more refined further development of the latest S-Class. They've dialed back the fender flares, which helps. More distinctive than the current C-Class, but not exactly beautiful.

That's not a spy shot: it's a bad chop...
And from the real spy shots of the prototypes, the front will not be like that: less vertical, less massive and more elegant.

Looks pretty cool. It was in Autobild a while ago.

Maybe it's the color, but I'm not feeling this one. The computer image of the AMG C-Class in R&T looked much better. I hope it looks more like that. These headlights look Buick-like.

looks like an infiniti at first glance. Look at the resemblance to the dodge avenger. This is the reason why dodge decided to go with the avenger.

I've mixed feelings about this new C-Class sedan. On the one hand the large grille is refreshingly bold - but the absence of the hood emblem is a troubling sign of changes ahead. It's much more defined than its predecessor, though, which is a good thing.

What happened to it looking like a mini-CLS?

The hood needs to be higher, (more vertical), for European pedestrian impact laws coming into effect. I miss when mercedes were not about 'fashion' and were understated and elegant. I think they are incredibly messy and overdone now.

You are right, but the prototypes have a more elegant front: what can I do about it?

Definitely a chop. Headlights and grille are a dead giveaway, not to mention the smudge job on the lower part of the bumper.
Spy Shot...I think not.

Looks nice, but the nose kills it for me. Losing the distinctive chrome grill surround and the lack of star on the hood is a deal killer. Benz sedans should always have a star on the hood, and the coupes/sport cars/SUV get the big star in the grill, I hope this is an inaccurate photo chop.

The original article containing the photo states specifically that the photo was photoshopped to remove black tape

Is it just me or the front of this supposed C-Class kind of resembles the upcoming Dodge Avenger?

Maybe it's the angle, but when I look at the back my mind screams "CAMRY!"

HMMM - the news, if this is really the car, should be about the switch to the non-sedan grille. Of course, the prototype could have the grile from the coupe.
I like this one, but the above comments indicate that the customers want the sedan grille and star to continue.
The middle section of this car looks like a Camry.
The comments about smaller wheel arches than the S are as silly as earlier mention that the 3-series has simpler styling than the 5 and 7: the smaller cars have less room for that stuff, without decreasing passenger space, and have to be parkable in Europe.

Reminds me of an 80s 560SEC in the front. Going for that Heritage look I suppose. If it really looks like this, then the European pedestrian crash regulation really botched the designers creativity. I'd rather have the 560SEC, at least it looks like one coherent thought, and not a mismatch of parts cobbled together.
