Wretched excess on wheels (a.k.a. the Maybach 62 S) was just unveiled at the Beijing motor show, after DaimlerChrysler released the details and photos a couple of weeks ago. The 62 S puts an AMG-tuned 612-horsepower twin-turbo V12 monster underneath the hood of the company's top-of-the-line chauffeured super-saloon, sending lesser automobiles scurrying out of its way.

But, of course, how could we possibly be expected to fully appreciate the supremely powerful presence and opulence of this performance limousine without seeing the car touring Paris? So like the dedicated valets they are, Maybach gives us this video. Will there be anything else, sir?

Update: Remember to check the Maybach 62 S pics in China 2006 autoshow and interior shots.

I guess they want to be confused with a Hyundai!!!

No point in buying one of these when you can get a S600 for probably $200k cheaper...

Maybach was nice for a whopping ten minutes but their cars arent anything special. I would rather have a RR Phantom. That at least doesnt look like anything else on the road.

In person, it definitely doesn't look like a Hyundai. But for me, it still isn't as regal as the Bentley Arnage or Rolls Royce Phantom.

Actually the front looks like a Sonata from several years ago; new Hyundais actually look better. Q: Shouldn't Daimler-Benz' super-luxury division have a more impressive grille than the pedestrian Mercedes?

IS it just me? or does it look like the 2004 Hyundai Sonata???

Everything about the maybach is underwhelming. Even that video :-)
99.9% of the world won't see the difference between it and an S-class. There's only one real super luxury limo and that's the RR Phantom.

      Cool! New Hyundai!

I love that sweet, sweet, Korean styling.

All this silliness about the car looking like a Hyundai is goofy. In person, the Maybach looks nothing like a Sonata or anything else. It doesn't look like an S-Class; the new S-Class looks like it. People babbling on about the car being "underwhelming" or nothing "special" probably have not sat inside one, nor are they likely to. Face it -- the rich live differently, and this is part of the difference.

"99.9% of the world won't see the difference between it and an S-class"

Of course not... but again: 99.9% of the world isn't at it's level.

Saw one of those beasts yesterday pulling into one of the highest class, gated neighborhoods in vegas as I was waiting at the security checkpoint. Gorgous car with a very proud looking driver.

After seeing that video, now I'll buy one for sure.
