VIDEO: "It's so fast that even a dead man will scream"
That was one driver's summation after a run around the track in an R34 Skyline GT-R tuned by Mine's, and with good reason. The Mine's GT-R is a complete monster whose performance shocked even the two test drivers. They were positively giddy behind the wheel, in utter disbelief at the ferocious power their right feet unleashed. This one's an aural delight, too, as the techno-symphony emitted by the car is part banshee, part racing car, part jet plane, and all awesome.
Oh, we can't wait until the next GT-R finally washes up on US shores...

1- What was up with the rubber hand on a stick?
2- What kind of a racing driver calls a car "too fast"?

I don't give a damn about the car. I had my eyes on the girl.

["What was up with the rubber hand on a stick?"]
I was thinking that myself...perhaps they can't be bothered to reach down two feet to use their own hand? ;)
["What kind of a racing driver calls a car "too fast"?"]
Perhaps he meant that it was too fast for it's own good. You can get a lot of power out of an engine, but there's only so much you can do to the chassis, gearbox, tires and other parts in order to be able to cope with so much extra power.

That thing looks like it was absolutely glued to pavement. From the looks of the tach during the video, the acceleration must be brutal. Wow.

Another perspective on the "too fast" comment (made by two professional racers) may be that the Mine's GT-R is "too fast" for other cars to be competitive in a race against it.

Guys --
This is from the Best Motoring series of 'video magazines' (http://www.bestmotoringvideo.com/). I'm actually surprised some of you don't know about this. It is an amazing collection of very well produced and intese car reviews, tests, comparisons , touge runs, analysis etc.
These aren't just normal drivers either, but real JGTCC drivers. Some of them are like the Tony Stewart of Japan.
The 'hand on the stick' is just something they use to point to parts of the car or engine.. think about it. If you wanted to point to a turbo deep down int he engine bay, wouldn't it make more sense to use a 'finger on a stick' then putting your body into the engine bay and obscuring the shot?
Plus.. they are Japanese, what do you expect:)

I would complain about it being too fast too. It's so fast, the fun is over too quickly. But yeah, that thing looked tremendously quick and handled very well. I don't think the drivers were expecting the car to fly.
And poor lady, wearing next to nothing on a windy blustery day were all the guys are wearing layers of clothes.

Orido and Tsuchiya aka "Drift King" are well respected race car drivers and legends in Japanese motor racing . This episode is “Best Motoring Hot Version". They emphasize on the comparisons between street tuned cars or actual race cars. They race different model race cars (ie awd vs. rwd vs ffwd) driven by professional drivers and go flat out on a track against each other in various racing conditions. Mines is a monster tuner for Skylines. Their in-car and cams highlighting gas pedal, clutch “heel toe” footwork is amazing and the races are intense. This is where the video game Gran Turismo got its inspiration from. The regular “Best Motoring” show tests production cars (stock "no modifications")…one episode had a Lambo Gallardo against a Porsche GT3 vs. Ferrari F430 vs Honda NSX Type R all on the same track.. Where are you ever going to see all those cars raced against each other? Your not.

This is exctly wht Honda can't find a Japanese F1 driver that's fast enough. Put Colin McRae in that seat and you won't hear comments like "Too fast' and "Shxxxt".

About "too fast"; I'm guessing it is a mistranslation for something in Japanese like "damn fast" or "fxxxking fast".
I did an English -> Japanese -> English translation using Google's translation service, and came up with the result: "damn fast" -> Japanese -> "it is ugly, it is fast". Oddly enough, "fxxxking fast" -> Japanese -> "it is fast very".

It seems a lot of people are being misled by the subs. Two things:
1. "Too fast" is the literal translation of the phrase "haya-sugi", the "-sugi" part meaning both "too much" and "more than I expected". In modern Japanese culture, "-sugi" is normally the latter, and "haya-sugi" in the video actually means "a lot faster than I expected". Though you don't really have to know that if you saw that Tsuchiya's laughing hysterically throughout video.
2. The line translated as "Shxxxxt" should actually be translated "Is this for real?". If you take a second look at it in that context, you can see that the drivers are pleasantly surprised rather than scared.
On another note, Honda can and has found a Japanese F1 driver who's "fast enough". They just haven't been able to find one that isn't attracted to the side pods of competitors' cars.

Enjoy these tuned GTRs, caus their days are numbered. The new G350Z Skyline won't have half the potential of its predecessors.

What's even more scary is that same car is now around 3 or 4 seconds faster on that track (this video is a couple years old from memory). There's an awesome Best MOTORing video on YouTube with this car being raced against a bunch of race cars and an F40. It makes the F40 look quite pathetic but the Super GT NSX and the Formula Nippon car just make everything else seem like they're standing still.
I never realised that the Best MOTORing International announcer guy is also the voice actor for the main commentator on the English dub of Iron Chef though Alps. But now it's totally obvious, pretty funny ahah.
