Last week's autocross-themed RR of the Week was another close race (I'll take that pun, thank you); with a scant five votes separating first and second place.
It came down to two front-engine, four-pot, drop tops: the Mazda Miata, a cone-slayer if there ever was one, and the Honda S2000, with revs so high it's a wonder they fitted six speeds. As voting took place over the weekend, the S2000 maintained a substantial lead, but as Sunday drew to a close the Miata eked out the lead and in the end, took the checkered flag.

This week's theme is cars of the 80's, so if you you've got a ride from the decade of excess, directions on how to submit it to our Flickr group are posted after the jump.
How to submit to RR of the Day:
Create a Flickr account if you don't already have one. Search for and join the group called 'Autoblog RR of the Day'. Upload up to three photos of your ride to your own account at a size no larger than 450 pixels wide if possible and include as much information about it and yourself as possible. Even if your ride is sweet, it will not be chosen if there's not a lot of info accompanying it. Click on each photo and just above the picture it will say "Send to group". Click that and select the Autoblog group. You're done, that's it!

Hahahahhaha, so basically it was a clean vote with the miata in third behind the prelude, until someone posted this to a miata forum and the fanboys flooded 500 votes in.
Good work, kids. Internet polls are such a joke.
Fasteddie @ Nov 20th 2006 12:40PM
we are what we are.... :D

I actually voted for it before I saw it posted on miata.net. The Miata is truly a "cone slayer". Congrats to Alex on this sweet '95.
vectorbug @ Nov 20th 2006 2:13PM
Considering the s2000 was designed to be like the Miata but more "American" (and yes I know the s2000 is not the first sports roadster Honda has ever made, I'm a fan of the S800) I think its just a matter of respect that the Miata/Mx-5 won in popularity.
Its not the worlds best selling sports car for nothing.
also, lol prelude.

Also wanted to give a mention that Dave (S2000) was very gracious on the miata forum and is truly a class act. Hated to see the S2000 lose because there is a great driver behind the wheel, but I still wanted the miata to win ;-)

I guess there were a lot of female voters.
Kansei @ Nov 20th 2006 4:10PM
fitting that a Mazda took the RR of the Week for Autocross week. Sucks that it wasn't my Protege but damn that's a nice miada, I want one!
Mike @ Nov 20th 2006 4:27PM
Laugh at the Prelude all you want, the point was that it has more votes than the miata when the miata forum invasion is excluded.
Alex Renner @ Nov 20th 2006 4:48PM
It was really close Dave!
Congrats to everyone who participated, cool cars, cool people.
Mike why are you so angry? This is just a poll. Relax.
Kansei thanks for sharing your car, very nice prelude.
See you around guys (too bad we can´t race each other).
Girlie cars ftw. :D
Mike @ Nov 20th 2006 4:52PM
Who says I'm angry?
I'm just saying that the miata is more deserving of third place than first, and that's a fact. Look at fasteddie and the first few posts.
I'm a stickler for reality and truth, not angry.
Lee Gibson @ Nov 20th 2006 10:30PM
"I guess there were a lot of female voters."
Why?
Oh, I get it, because you still think the Miata is a chick car, never mind the race results. OK, then. Thanks for sharing!
Lee Gibson @ Nov 21st 2006 2:58AM
So, except for the people who voted for the Miata, the Prelude won.
Mmmkay. So, hey, what's an '06 Prelude going for?

.. leave it up to Mike to showcase his geekness once again ..

#13 Lee Gibson -
No, without miataforums.com trolls, the S2000 won. 619 is a bigger number than 196. See how that works?
Mmmkay?
#14 - CLEVER!
I'll get down to you level and say that I heard you smell like poopie-pants. So there.

sorry mike, I see your comments all the time and I just couldnt resist, you're one of the biggest sounding dorks on this site... but heck , don't take my word for it, just browse some of your past comments, if you have the ability to read them without being defensive (he he he he) then you'll see what I mean... have fun!
Daverx7 @ Nov 27th 2006 8:28PM
When I saw the post in miata.net, I knew I was in trouble, so I started campaigning hard on my common forums... but just was not enough.
Either way... the Miata is a great autoX car. Believe it or not, I even lose to some of them on the autoX course... umm... frequently. So, I'm pretty used to it! ;-)

You can argue all you want, but the miata is the definition of the perfect autocross car. Perfect balance, light, nimble, and an extremely close ratio gearbox make it that. S2000's are amazing pieces of machinery, but the autocross king they are not.
smlude @ Dec 21st 2006 10:24AM
Not that anyone will read this at this point but I'd put my "lol" Prelude up against any one of the cars in this poll, overall and after PAX.
Any car makes a good autocross car, thats what autocross is about. Not every car is an event winner but you can have fun with any car.
I considered posting the poll on all the Prelude forums where I'm extremely well known but decided not to.
Maybe we'll meet up at event one day. Keep it up guys.
