I did kinda the same thing (sans tape though) when I bought my Lotus this past February. We flew down to Clearwater Florida to pick it up and then brought it back through the south by zigzagging around to Gulf Shores Alabama, Atlanta, Deals Gap, Chattanooga TN, etc... It was a load of fun and a great way to get acquainted with our new friend. I think in the end the car arrived in Louisville with about 1,900 miles on it.
