Mama Mia Mustang: Giugiaro Mustang Concept spotted in Italy

Little is known about the Giugiaro Mustang Concept, except that it's set to debut at the L.A. Auto Show later this month. A member of MustangForums.com, however, hit the jackpot when he snagged the Italian Stallion at a refueling station in Italy. Some are saying the Giugiaro Mustang will be a thinly veiled preview of the 2010 Mustang. The photographer who snapped this pic says the front actually looks a lot like the new Camaro, which we interpret to mean that the headlights are likely tucked under the hood and partially obscured. He also says that the concept's roof is all glass that flows right into the windshield. We'll have to wait until L.A. to find out more, since that sober looking fellow standing in between the lens and its subject prevented our guy from getting any more shots. That's a dead sexy rump, though, and those rear fenders look inspired by the Shelby GR-1 Concept. The only other info we could find on the Giugiaro Mustang Concept is from Ward's Auto, which claims the car will come with the most powerful Mustang engine developed so far.
Thanks for the tip, Jim!

That show looks terrific. The rear quarter reminds me a lot of the Reflex. If Ford ever gets around to bringing that car to market (along with this Mustang) they would have a solid 1 - 2 punch in the market.

Gorgeous...I hope this is actually the real deal.
I also hope Ford doesn't deaden the design to boredom.

Holy cow, that's sweet.
#1, You are right, the rear looks alot like the Reflex.
This car with the front like that German Car Magazine did would be perfect.

I like it. Nice lines. This would be a great follow-up to their retro efforts... brings the Mustang back into the new millenium and it should sell well.

"says the front actually looks a lot like the new Camaro"
As do the sides, and to an extent the pillars. ;)

Italians messing with the Mustang-? Seems very strange to me. So does this mean Ford gets to do a makeover of the Lamborghini Gallardo?

hey Ford, take some notes, looks like some people know how to get it right....

Italdesign-Giugiaro did a beautifull Corvette concept, and even if some lines were retained (or copied?) by Chevrolet, they didn't care for it and just produced the present Corvete: dull... and lost that "eyeless" face that always gave it its character...
I hope Ford takes the Giugiaro design!

It looks like a much more modern interpretation of the Mustang. This generation was a very good job but if the next version looked as sexy as this appears to be, it would be a HUGE winner.
Ford needs some big hits. This is a Bold Move.

The rear looks good, except the tail lights say "60's show car" to me.

I dunt need no eye-tailians designing me Mustang.
Just kidding, looks cool, but I still don't think they need to throw out the retro to moderize its looks.

Wonder if Ford will ever have a separate model (other than a tricked-out stang)to compete w/covette

Mustang of the 21 century,
I hope
this design looks very nice, adn it's still a bit retro
FORD - better not make any mistakes on this one and bring it over soon with IRS - we'll be willing to pay up some extra ponies for the IRS.
So a 3.5L V6 in the base model making 270HP/265lb-ft
a 5.0L V8 in the GT turning at least 400HP/420lb-ft
now this would bring back a true muscle car in the modern era with handling to match

Stunning. The Sham-aro cannot hold a candle to it with its awkward lines and added on scoops in the front. I hope Ford does go ahead with this as the next Mustang because it is fluid, holds true to the Mustang lineage, but brings the whole package into the 21st century instead of revisiting the 20th (even though the current one is still quite nice).
Note to Bobby Putz and Jackie Wagoneer - look at that Mustang. That's style and fluidity. Learn from it and live it instead of the crap you continue to shovel onto Americans by the truckload!

Hatch back glass, (and keep the glass roof, too.)
IRS. Not everyone drives on the concrete equivalent of a pool table.
A diet. No reason for a car that size with only two doors, and minimal rear seat to weigh almost two tons.
3200-3400lbs would be a decent goal, one would think...
A rear-transaxle (like corvette, front-engined Porsches...) might be a good idea for the weight balance, and engine placement behind the front axle line, but that might be stretching it a bit. One can dream...

Super hot design.... I hope the new mustang looks like this.
BTW, my vote is to keep the solid axle in the back - cheap, bulletproof, and so finely tuned in todays mustang most ppl would need to look under the car to believe its not an IRS, for those of you in doubt just read most of the reviews from when this car first came out...
