Garbage trucks get hybrid power
The same diesel-electric hybrid powertrain found in an Oshkosh military vehicle was shown in a refuse truck this week. The 2006 Hybrid Truck Users Forum in San Diego was home for the unveiling of the ProPulse hybrid technology in a McNeilus refuse truck, similar to the one shown here. McNeilus is owned by Oshkosh Truck Corp. The ProPulse is also available in the 8x8 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT-A3) built by Oshkosh. Officials claim fuel savings of 20 to 50 percent over typical refuse trucks.
