Shelby Automobiles was on hand at SEMA to show off a suite of new appearance and performance add-ons that they'll be making available to Mustang owners in early 2007. Shelby is headquartered in Vegas, so their cars simply had to make a quick local run over to the show, where they appeared as part of American Racing's display (American Racing offers a line of Shelby wheels).
Sporting the instantly recognizable black & gold of Hertz Mustangs old and new, the GT-H convertible received all the performance and styling mods seen on the limited-edition coupe, plus a 14" brake upgrade, 20" American Racing "Shelby Razor" wheels, duct kits for the front and rear brakes, a billet insert for the lower fascia (which also fits the Mustang GT/CS), driving lights, sequential tail lights (cool!), a dash-mounted supplemental gauge cluster and a few more accessories that'll be sold through Shelby Autos and certified dealers starting next year.
We already loved the mean-looking GT-H coupe, and this is just as good. The Shelby Razor Wheels are particularly attractive, and are more distinctive than the now-common Bullits the limited-edition GT-H is shod with. It's also good for Shelby GT/GT-H owners in that they can further modify their cars and still keep the Shelby mystique intact, as these are all genuine Shelby parts and accessories.
Finally, the use of a convertible to do a GT-H concept has us wondering if that's exactly what's in store for the Hertz "Fun Collection" once the original 499 (remember the first one was auctioned) GT-H coupes are cycled out of rental outlets (and into collectors' garages). We wouldn't be surprised to see this happen, followed by the release of a Shelby GT convertible for the rest of us (something Ford dealers would probably like very much). Time will tell.

SHELBY GT-H CONVERTIBLE AND PARTS FOR MUSTANGS
10/31/2006 -- SHELBY AUTOMOBILES UNVEILS SHELBY GT-H CONVERTIBLE CONCEPT TO HIGHLIGHT NEW COMPONENTS FOR 2005 AND LATER MUSTANGS
Shelby Automobiles, Under the Guidance of Automotive Icon Carroll Shelby,
Offers Mustang Components for Shelby GT-H and Upcoming Shelby GT
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (October 31, 2006) – Shelby Automobiles, Inc. (SAI) a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI.PK), will offer Mustang enthusiasts the ultimate components for 2005 and later Mustangs through the leadership of legendary racecar driver and Cobra creator Carroll Shelby. The Shelby GT-H Convertible Concept highlights new components for late model Mustangs including special parts and packages for the Shelby GT-H and upcoming Shelby GT models. The Shelby GT-H Convertible Concept will make its debut at the American Racing Booth at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday October 31.
"Building off the success of the Shelby GT-H Rent-A-Racer® program, we thought we'd highlight some of our new parts for the upcoming Shelby GT with a different kind of concept," said Carroll Shelby, Chairman of Shelby Automobiles, Inc. "With more horsepower, a race suspension and the ability to put the top down, it makes you wish for summer and the open road again."
Just like 500 of its rental coupe siblings:
The Shelby GT-H Convertible Concept starts life similar to its 500 coupe siblings by utilizing the Ford Racing handling package including front springs, sway bars and dampers for better handling and more aggressive looks. Eibach in conjunction with SAI developed a new rear spring combination for Mustang convertibles that lowers the ride height, but still allows for a comfortable ride. Power comes from the tried and true Ford Racing power pack that ups the horsepower and torque through a revised air intake, exhaust and re-calibration. Like its rental brothers, the GT-H Convertible Concept is decked out in black with gold stripes and has the aggressive styled hood, front fascia, grille, side scoops and GT-H markings.
Unlike its coupe siblings the Shelby GT-H Convertible Concept features a host of upgrades that will be available to upcoming 2005 and later Mustangs, Shelby GT customers and the lucky few who will be purchasing the Shelby GT-H's after tours of rental duty. Upgrades include 14" brake package; custom 20"American Racing Razor wheels; rear brake duct kit; front brake duct kit and driving light package and lower billet grille insert designed to fit all California Special Mustangs, Shelby GT-H's and Shelby GT's; three-gauge center dash-pod with custom Shelby gauges; custom floor mats, sequential tail lamps, authentic racing hood pin kit; billet engine fluid caps and oil dip stick, and various interior appointments.
"Shelby Automobiles is back in the Mustang arena full-force," said Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles. "Our components business continues to grow daily and the Shelby GT-H Convertible Concept starts to reveal our hand at some of the innovative parts we have coming."
Available in the first quarter of 2007, the component upgrades for 2005 and later Mustangs will be sold through Shelby Automobiles Las Vegas headquarters and a national dealer network.
