Those things are sweet! They are even better looking in person. It looked like somebody's personal vehicle, but I couldn't tell for sure because I couldn't catch it.

I'm still holding out hope that maybe Ford has some plan to bring it to the US, since I saw it driving around near the Ford development facilities there. I guess I might as well dream about it...

Steve

Comments on VIDEO: More Ford Australia Fun

We get the big old F-150 and the Aussies get the Falcon RTV? Everywhere else in the world, they sell real cars. How small and viciously competitive is the Australian market, but they still seem to manage a profit and maintain sales. That's because they built their cars to do most everything we build big trucks to do here.

Those cars have nicer interiors, are easier and more comfortable to operate and drive light years better than our fullsized trucks too.

Don't get me wrong, our 3/4 and 1-tons have their place. But the Utes that Ford and Holden produce will do almost all the tasks people buy 1/2-tons here for. And they make better daily drivers to boot.

TriShield

Comments on VIDEO: More Ford Australia Fun

I have been brought up loving these cars in Australia the with our Ford Vs. We make the Holdens here (Adelaide), and the Fords are made in Victoria (only 1000km down the road). They're very fast in a straight line, especially the utes. The sedans are comfortable, handle pretty well (esp. the VE Holden Commodore), and although they may not be as sophisticated as the Euro-mobiles, you get a lot of car for the money (around 1/3 of the money of a EuroMobile in Australia; try pricing a V8 Audi vs a V8 Holden or Ford).

On recent visits to the USA (2005), I was surprised at the large number of pickup trucks in Arizona/Nevada/California, and how bloody fat and bland many of them are. I think that FPV and HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) could do pretty well if exported to the USA. V8s, nice styling, fairly cheap, rear-wheel drive, less phat but better performance than an 'SUV'.

So come on, yanks! Make some noise! There's only 20 million of us Aussies, so we don't get heard on the international scene. If a decent amount of Americans want FPV and HSV vehicles, then we'll start to export.

At least the Holden VE Commodore is being exported as the Pontiac V8. So come-on, Ford men! Make some noise at your Ford dealership.

Kim from Adelaide
