Back in April we told you about Vertu's Racetrack Legends series of mobile phones. At that time only Monza and Silverstone were available. But now filthy rich fans of LeMans and Indianapolis can chat on phones more expensive than a 10-year-old Miata. Made by Nokia, the $6,000+ phone is made of carbon-fiber-like leather, and an alloy called LiquidMetal laser-etched with a map of the namesake racetrack. Only 1,000 of each of six tracks will be produced.

But if you must talk on the phone while in the car, do the safe, courteous thing and pit.

If anyone wants to actually see these things in person, check out the Nokia store on Michigan Ave in Chicago. In the very back they have a Vertu lounge where you can see even more expensive phones.

...and in a year, they can donate it to the old poor folks to use in emergencies, or let their kids use it as a toy once a newer, swankier phone comes out.

Let's see . . . most people keep phones no more than two years, since every phone company will give you one for free every two years, so at $6,400, I'm paying (again, assuming I keep it two years) an extra $267 a month for the privilege of carrying this little status symbol around . . . have I got it right?

      Or for my $267 a month, I could buy a three-year old Toyota Camry . . .

Tough decision, unless you're Paris Hilton.

You actually get a very nice concierge service with this phone. This is for people who are looking for a bit more out of their mobile service, mostly travellers.

      Hmmm
Besides the comment about Paris Hilton.. (Ive read about the car she drives. I bet she drives the car, but doesnt DRIVE the car. Its some.. 6-7fig M-B with gull wing doors.) Insanity.

Shes got the brain content of wasted motor oil.

As far as the cell phones.. its simply the technology. It gets better, it gets faster, made better.

The first two editions are sold out, so imagine how quickly these two will sell. I think they are also available at the nokia store in nyc
