Voting is open for The Truth About Cars' first ever Ten Worst Automobiles Today (or TWAT) award that we told you about earlier in the month. The initial list of more than 120 reader nominations contained predictable TWAT-eligible autos like GM's ancient minivans, uh, sorry, Crossover Sport Van, a couple of Saturns, several DaimlerChryslers, and a few Korean models. Some vehicles that were nominated but didn't make the list included highly-respected vehicles like the Toyota Camry, Pontiac Solstice, Ford Focus and Honda Fit.

Using a highly refined proprietary system, TTAC staffers trimmed the candidates to 20. Voting for the Ten Worst Automobiles Today is now open until Wednesday. See the 20 TWAT candidates after the jump.

Here are TTAC's 20 candidates for its TWAT award.

Hmm, after scanning, I think that list does a good job of making itself irrelevant. Perhaps if they were going for ten most mediocre cars they would have something besides a half assed attempt at an Alexa spike.

Though most of those vehicles aren't especially desirable to me I wouldn't go so far as to call any of them terrible or junk. Admittedly, plenty are mediocre, like the gm minivans, or questionably styled, like the b9 tribeca. This list does alot to show that the gremlins and the azteks of the current automotive world are few and far between.

Rats...I thought the Fit *was* on the list.

Reliable and practical it may be, but one of the ugliest cars on the road.

The Impala was most likely included because of the current car's perceived bastardization of a legendary name. Ironically, it's usually the 'Merican-brand crowd that gets its knickers in a twist over that car, not the import fanboys. Something to do with the fact that it's FWD--despite the fact that the old RWD Impala was thoroughly conventional in its day, just as the new one is in the now-FWD-dominated midsize market.
Personally, I don't think either it nor the Cobalt deserve to be on this list. They're solid products.

As for the Camry, Corolla, NSX, Scions, and others deserving a spot on the list... sorry, guys, but you're only revealing how few current cars you've actually driven.

Drive a Saturn ION back-to-back with a Civic, or a Rendezvous and an SRX, or an Aspen and a Pilot, or a Ranger and a Frontier, or a Monte Carlo and an Accord Coupe, et cetera, and there's simply no way that you'd think the former is a better-quality, better-driving, more thoughtfully-designed product than the latter.

Brand loyalties and national biases are powerful things, but you can't expect them to constitute a logical argument that one product is superior to another. Especially if you haven't spent a modicum of seat time in said products. Except for the Cobalt, Impala, Baja, and possibly the Escalade and Navigator, this list is right on.

Relevant or not...they actually have the majority of the worst cars on this list.

      My Top ten worst automobiles

      1. Yaris
      2. Focus
      3. Versa
      4. Fit
      5. Honda Element
      6. Aveo
      7. Cr-V
      8. Any Kia or Dawoo
      9. Jeep Compass
      10. Ford Ranger

How can some of you people drive the honda fit or toyota yaris, i don't know about you but i don't want to be seen in something that ugly or drive something called a yaris. Awful styling, and awful taste to anyone who buys that shit.

      the FIT?!

HAH. that's one of the ten best cars on the road today. silly haters.

show me another car that lets you do as much with the interior, gets that kind of MPG, is as much fun to drive, and is of the same quality and i'll show you... wait, there is no such thing.

Add me to the list of Ridgeline haters and take the Ranger, at least the conventional-cab 4-cylinder, off the list.

The V-6 Ranger offers no better gas mileage than a basic Silverado Classic and costs the same. An alright-enough vehicle that needs some new technology under the hood and a lower price.

My little Ranger 4 has been very reliable over the past 9 years and definitely does not belong on the list.

The Rendezvous doesn't belong on the list, either. It gets better mileage, has more interior space, and is lighter than the more-deserving overweight Ridgeline which was inexplicably left off the list.

The Ridgeline has exactly the same net payload as a Ranger and has an astonishing
3/4 ton heavier curb weight. The high box sides make it unusable for city delivery.

      that's a crappy list.
These cars should not be on that list:

      Cadillac Escalade
      Chevrolet Aveo
Chevrolet Cobalt / / Saturn Ion
      Chevrolet Impala
      Chevrolet Monte Carlo
      Chysler Crossfire
      Ford Ranger / Mazda B-series
      Hummer H2
      Infiniti QX56
      Lincoln Navigator

The H2 should be changed to H3, and the Monte Carlo should be changed to the Monte Carlo SS.

The Lexus R400h and Honda Ridgeline should be added.

Everyone on that site hates anything American, and besides that they are a bunch of smart asses.

Meaningless list but GM shouldn't be too happy with 9 out of the 20 (45%) on it!

The Chevy Impala is not a fabulous car, but it was improved enormously last year. Impala is no longer ugly and its interior has been upgraded.

I thought that a rented Impala from last month was a good car that does not belong on an honest "Ten Worst" car list.
