POLL: RR of the Week
click on any image for a refresher
This week we decided to narrow the focus of our RR of the Day selections to include just two cars that are natural born enemies: the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and the Subaru WRX/WRX STi. From the submissions that poured in we've been forced to conclude that Autoblog has more readers who drive a Subaru than a Mitsubishi, as four out of the five cars we chose to feature were of the Subie kind. Truth be told, however, the one Lancer EVO we featured is killer and comes complete with video of the car and owner tearing up Thunderhill Raceway. But we've also got every manner of WRX gunning for a shot at this week's title. Will the EVO win out? Will Darth Subie summon the Dark Side? Will the WRX Wagon haul away the win with room to spare? Don't forget to vote and we'll find out Monday.
The theme for next week is Camaros! Everyone with a Camaro of note should submit his or her ride to our Flickr pool. We have few Camaros in the pool right now, so we need to fill it up with enough submissions to cover all of next week. Just follow the instructions after the jump to submit.
How to submit to RR of the Day:
Create a Flickr account if you don't already have one. Search for and join the group called 'Autoblog RR of the Day'. Upload up to three photos of your ride to your own account at a size no larger than 450 pixels wide if possible and include as much information about it and yourself as possible. Even if your ride is sweet, it will not be chosen if there's not a lot of info accompanying it. Click on each photo and just above the picture it will say "Send to group". Click that and select the Autoblog group. You're done, that's it!

I've always had a thing for wagons so I had to vote for the blue Suby, all of the choices were cool cars though!

Where is the None of the Above option?

The 2.5 Impreza gets my vote. The original Impreza was, and still is, the best of them all.

I almost voted for the 2.5, but the black hood scoop steered me away. Yeah, I'm fickle and shallow. All-black Darth Subie got my vote.

Why do I have to vote between bad and worse...
I'll take the one without the obnoxious body, spoiler and hood scoop please...
(oh wait, none of them fit that description)

The hood scoop is functional, at least it's not fake.

#7: for real.
Mike Rolls, mattlach: If you really hate it so much, you guyz are the biggest retards in the world. Why? for wasting your time to type a message, going into your e-mail, and then confirming it. Here's an idea: click on another story, or better yet, just go to another site. No true autoblogger wants flamers here.
Seriously, if there was something wrong with varying opinions in car taste, there would be only one car in the world. How about you douchebags not post now, and when you guyz post your pink Micra convertible vs. Scion xB (no offense to Micra and xB owners who read this), we won't rail on you.
>>Relevant: lostangel's Darth Subie looks very clean, but I had to vote for the 2.5RS (who says beauty diminishes with age ;) ).

The readers rides polls are all about opinions. And I am giving mine. You know what they say about heat and kitchens... :p
As regards the functionality of the hood scoop, I keep hearing this, and I am not convinced...
I know everyone talked about the hood scoop on the current gen WRX:es being functional compared to the merely aesthetic ones on the old body style, but I still question the functionality of hood scoops in general.
At low speeds, they are no more effective than a traditional front intake. At high speeds you have a near vacuum right above the hood anyway due to the flow of air, so they may actually hurt performance as compared to a traditional internally routed intake.
Essentially the reasoning for putting a hood scoop on a car is more for aesthetic purposes than anything else, and it is an aesthetic I find rather dumb looking, but thats just me.
To each their own I guess.

Oh, and to honor my statement about opinions, feel free to make fun of my car all you like.

Who cares? They are all just Grama's turbocharged little Sh&t boxes. I think I'd pick a supercharged Yugo over all of them.

Thats a little harsh, don't you think?
They are quite fast and handle very well.
The interiors are a bit spartan, but the same can be said for mustangs/camaros/"insert dumb straightline muscle car here" us brands.
The biggest downside with them - IMHO - are the riceboy looks even when factory stock...
Cars don't need V8's to go fast.

I think the EVO is gonna win this just because it's the only one there, all the WRX fans are gonna have to split their votes, and all the EVO fanboys only have one car to vote on.

Re: mattlach on hoodscoops -- the WRXes have top-mount intercoolers (TMICs), which are mounted on top of the engines rather than in the bumper (those are front-mount intercoolers, or FMICs). TMICs require a hoodscoop to pass air through them so that they can serve their intercooling function. The hoodscoops aren't there for engine cooling; they're there for turbocharger cooling. Of course, many would argue that FMICs are technically superior because they don't have the heat of the engine decreasing their efficiency, and many Subie guys upgrade to FMICs, but that's another story altogether. ;)

The hood scoop on the 4 Runner is dumb looking. The hood scoop on the WRX pushes air over the intercooler.

mattlach: about the hood scoop... I was 2nd'ing that the intake is actually underneath the hood scoop (i.e. on the previous generation mustang, there is the "scoop" on the hood, but its covered with plastic and so is just eye candy).
How effective the ram function is at most driving speeds is definitely questionable.

I ended up voting for the RS. It was a tough choose, but decied that, 'Anyone thats willing to bolt in a new motor, into old iron is cool in my book.' Im sure it was not all that hard, but the extra credit done on the RS just won it for me.
As for the Mitsubishi, I owned two of them... Some people have luck with them. I don't... I had to replace just about the whole electronic system, a radiator, two transmissions, and over 5 alternatators betwen the two of them. As nice of a car as the one above is, my past ownership of products by the same brand only bring back terrible memories.
(oh, the horror, the horror.)

The AWD turbo sedan has officially replaced the riced-up Civic of idiot car cluebies and teenage boys everywhere.
While (slightly) less stupid looking, I actually preferred the Civics for this crowd - at least they were less of a danger to the rest of us when their cars were slow.

I'm 34, never owned a civic, and just sold my Audi to buy a WRX Wagon.
You're a tool.
